Birth16 August 1838Engel Marie Sophie Schrage was born on 16 August 1838 at Ottensen #5, Schaumburg, Hessia, Germany, also reported as 16 Aug 1839.
She was the daughter of Johann Philipp Schrage and Engel Maria Sophia Wille.
Marriage24 May 1858Engel Marie Sophie Schrage married Heinrich Grages, son of Johann Friedrich Conrad Grages and Catherina Dorothea Stock, on 24 May 1858 at Eagle Lake St. Johns Church, Beecher, Will, Illinois.
Death23 March 1924Engel Marie Sophie Schrage died on 23 March 1924 at Beecher, Will, Illinois, at age 85 Mrs. Henry Grages, nee Engel Marie Sophie Schrage, was born Aug. 16, 1838, at Ottensen, Hessin, Schaunburg, Germany. At the age of 19 years, she came to America. Two years later, May 24, 1858, she was married to Henry Grages at Eagle Lake. Ten children were born to this union, seven of whom having passed away. The family lived east of Beecher, near St. John's church, until about 21 years ago, when they moved to Beecher. Here, on May 24, 1908, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Barely six ears later, Jan. 1, 1916, Mr. Grages passed away. Since that time the departed, together with her son, Herman, enjoyed the reclining years of her life under the kind solicitude and care of her son, Herman. About two weeks ago, Mother Grages contracted a severe cold which, in spite of the best medical care and loving tender nursing of her children and kind neighbors, brought about her death on Sunday afternoon, at 5:15 o'clock, at the ripe age of 85 years, 7 months and 7 days. Those surviving are the children, Caroline (Mrs. Wm. Matthies), Herman and Ed; one brother, Henry Schrage of Crete; one sister, Dorothea Oberheide of Chicago, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a large host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and continued at St. Luke's church, where Rev. Horst, in both the German and English tongue, spoke most fittingly of the character of the departed before one of the largest audiences ever assembled in St. Luke's. Burial was at St. John's cemetery. With the departed one of the good old mothers who in Christian faith and love gave her best to a Christian conviction and family, neighbor and friends, passed away.
