John W. Zion

M, b. circa 1767, d. before 1850
Life EventDateDescription
Birthcirca 1767John W. Zion was born circa 1767 at Washington, Virginia.
Marriage3 November 1789He married Lucy McCormick, daughter of William McCormick and Agnes Adams, on 3 November 1789 at Washington, Virginia.
Deathbefore 1850John W. Zion died before 1850 at Lee, Virginia.
DateLocationDescription
John Zion, the first of the name found, and head of this family, appears in Washington County, Virginia in 1789, where he was married. It is probable that John Zion came to Washington County with Jacob Blubaugh, who most likely married John Zion's sister as his first wife. Zion became a favorite masculine name in Lee County. After coming to Washington County, Virginia, presumably after the Revolution and believed to have come with several others, John Zion settled on the North fork of the Holston River, where he acquired considerable land holdings by grant and purchase. He bought and sold land, and was a very active citizen of the county. (The deeds are all of record.) He remained in Washington County for several years, where all his children were born, and his oldest son married. Eventually, around 1812, he sold his land holdings in Washington County and removed to Lee County, where he again acquired land holdings.
