History of the Peace Family, written by W. C. Peace on Apr 22, 1961:
Hartwell and his family left Alabama in the fall of 1854, in two wagons drawn by oxen and joined their friend Wess Hudson in Arkansas. They homesteaded land eight miles north of the Arkansas and Lousiana line, and right on the line between what is now Columbia Co., and Union Co., Arkansas. Hartwell and his wife lived here until their deaths in 1883. In the years after 1855, other families joined them and the settlement became known as Peace Town. Hartwell and his three sons, William, Grandison and Green enlisted in the
Confederate Army and participated in many battles including the Battle of Chicamauga, the seige of Vicksburg and the Battle of Port Hudson, but they all returned home.
