He took great pride in serving our country as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Marines during World War II, and earning two battle stars while in the South Pacific. He was with the Marines on the first day of the invasion of Okinawa.

Born to parents John “Jack” and Luella ( Bubs) Koplin in Spink Township of Union County, S.D., where he grew up on a farm, he joined the Marines in World War II. After the war, he returned home to attend the University of South Dakota, where he ran track and played baseball. From early on he was a Cardinals baseball fan. He earned a doctorate of education at the University of Greeley, Colorado, and later became a full professor at Winona State University in the education department. He was a kind teacher and a loving father who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf with his children. He loved caring for many pet cats and dogs throughout his lifetime. He was a wonderful grandfather who freely gave of his time to his five grandchildren, and spoke often of each of them with much pride and love.

Eldon is now united and resting in God’s heaven with those that preceded him in death: his parents; brother, John “Jack” Koplin; and sister, Norma Morehead.

Eldon will be interred in a private family ceremony in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

The fourth-born of six children; she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Eldon and John (Jack), and sisters Lorraine and Norma. Her brother Ronald survives.
In the early 1950’s, Shirley moved from South Dakota to San Diego, CA. In 1957, Shirley married Duane Floyd Lauters of Fresno at St. Francis chapel in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. They were married 35 years, until his death in 1992. Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fresno, for 64 years.
Shirley is survived by her children Stuart Lauters of Nevada City, CA, and Kimberlie (Ron) Stalcup of Fresno, CA, as well as grandchildren Ashlie (Billy) Prohaska, and Greyson Stalcup, and two great-grandchildren: Aubrie and Brylie.

Pallbearers were Korey and Kyle Behr, Mike Winterfeld, Troy Lang, Sam Skogman and Austin Walrod.

Honorary pallbearers were Brittni Behr, Brandi Schuler, Ben Schuler, Luke Gronemeyer, Jennifer Vaske, and Chris Walrod.

Marietta Nielsen was the organist with congregational singing.

Mr. Gronemeyer was born June 9, 1928, in rural Akron, the son of William and Evelyn (Smith) Gronemeyer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in the Craig, Iowa, area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medic. Following his discharge, he moved to the Le Mars, Iowa area.

He married Darlene Plueger in 1951, in rural Le Mars. He ran a feed grindery mill and also managed gas stations in Le Mars. He returned to Akron in 1989. He married Evelyn (Marienau) Klemme on Jan. 7, 1992, in Akron.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Wilken-McHale Post 724, where he served as vice commander.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Le Mars; two daughters and their husbands, Sheryl and Winston Belfrage of Sergeant Bluff and Barbara and Nolan Schuler of Colorado Springs, Colo; two sons and their wives, Greg and LeeAnn of Le Mars and Richard and Leanne of Fort Hood, Texas; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Gloria and Mark Kowalke of Sioux City, Gail and Bob Walrod of Akron and Ellen and Chuck Renken of Chatsworth, Iowa; four sisters, Jean Hartmann of Le Mars, Mildred and her husband, Wayne Winterfeld, of Ord, Neb., Edith and her husband, Ron Sechler of Meriden, Iowa, and Norma and her husband, Tom Flint, of Wilmer, Ala; and a sister-in-law, Verlee Gronemeyer of Meriden.

He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Dorothy; a brother, Russell; and a brother-in-law, Ray Hartmann.

Jeffrey Daryl Klemme was born January 12, 1960 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Daryl and Louise (Pickle) Klemme. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1978. During his schooling, he began helping his father on the family farm and continued following his graduation.

He was united in marriage to Cindy Westhoff on February 28, 1981 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa. Jeff and Cindy farmed and raised livestock east of Akron. Through the years, Jeff also worked for several businesses in the area. Most recently, he enjoyed working for Siouxland Propane in Akron until he was diagnosed with CIDP.

Jeff was longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, having served in several capacities through the years, including church council and volunteering with many church activities. Jeff's favorite time of the year was fair time. He loved attending and helping with the Plymouth County Fair each year. Jeff has served in several capacities through the years, many of those on the Fair Board. Jeff has had a passion for farming since he was young man, and that continued with his involvement in the F.F.A. Alumni, which he helped start in this area. He was currently serving as a trustee for Preston Township. He was a former Akron-Westfield School board member. Jeff enjoyed hunting and enjoyed being involved with Pheasant's Forever. He was also a member of the N.R.A. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who knew him as "PaPa". He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 29 years, Cindy of rural Akron; their children: Jessica Hughes (Clint) and their children, Makenzie and Brooklyn of Westfield, IA, Cassie Iseminger (Joel) and their son, Cooper of Akron, IA, and Chance Klemme of Akron, IA; his parents: Daryl and Louise Klemme of Akron, IA; his siblings: Kathy Weenink (Scott) of Akron, IA, and Jennifer Daiker (John) of Sioux Falls, SD; his father and mother in law: Gerald and Delores Westhoff of Le Mars, IA; his brothers in law: Steve Westhoff (Lori) of Le Mars, IA, and Rick Westhoff (Kris) of Le Mars, IA; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Emory and Freda Klemme and Eugene and Essie Pickle; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a special friend, Paul Haage.
