On Jan. 18, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II in Europe. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from March 21 to April 24, 1945. He made his home in Mitchell following his honorable discharge.

On Aug. 5, 1946, he married Eunice Sievers at Mitchell. He was employed at Hormel's in the lard rendering department. He retired from there in 1979 after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, the Meat Cutters Union and the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by two children; Diana Navin and husband, Dan, Sioux Falls; and Ken Giblin and wife, Mary Jane, Mitchell; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister, Catherine Smith, Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002, his parents, a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her sons: Beryl Grohs and wife, Patsy, Apple Valley, CA, and Gary Grohs and wife, Brigget, Torrance, CA; four grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Giblin, Parkston, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
