Death8 March 2009Norma Jaquish died on 8 March 2009 at age 82 Norma (Jaquish) Nemeth passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2009. She was born October 29, 1926 in Omak, Washington to Edward and Frieda Jaquish.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Steve, her son, Leslie, her granddaughter Kerry, her parents, and her brothers Ottis, Rollin and James. She is survived by her sister Ferne, her daughters Cathy (Craig) Koppenberg and Julie (Tom) Villani, her son Kevin (Treva). Norma is also survived by five wonderful nieces and nephews, Jacki Harvel, Janice Yurdana, Patty Klepec and Michael and Shane Jaquish. She also had eight grandchildren, Sarah, Matt, Jacob, Carly, Maxx, Josie, Kyle, and Kevney, as well as two great-grand children, Alexis and Raina that loved her very much.
Norma had an older sister, Georgie, who died of polio when she was 14 months old. Her parents were heart-broken and decided to have another child. Norma was that child and she brought happiness to their lives and countless others.
Immediately upon high school graduation she moved to Hollywood to study singing. Music has always been in her heart. During her life she sang with the Roger Wagner Corral, Sweet Adelines and with church choirs until her 80th birthday.
She met her husband Stephen while in Hollywood and the two were married for 48 wonderful years. Shortly after marriage Norma and Steve moved back to Washington, raising a family in Redmond before retiring and relocating to Gig Harbor.
Norma had a special talent for giving. She gave her time and her love to all around her. She volunteered at the Peninsula FISH food bank for 24 years and greeted visitors to her home with this same welcoming hospitality and love.
Family and friends expressed the following thoughts:
“Mom is like the 1st ray of sunlight on a beautiful spring day. You take in a deep breath and it makes you smile all day.”
“She was kind, loving, accepting, gentle person who was a friend to everyone.”
“Norma was a special lady with many gifts but her most important gift turned out to be her greatest strength in the end. Norma was a dedicated Christian.”
“As her pastor for these last 21 years, here is what I would say about Norma: she was always smiling. A big, gracious, warm smile. Even when she was sick; even when she started to slip; even in the last days of her life…”
Her belief gave her the strength to endure both life’s pleasures and pains with a smile. She touched many lives. She will be missed.
