She was born Jan. 28, 1919 in Westfield Township, the daughter of Daniel and Bertha (Semrau) Bloedau. Lily was united in marriage to Wallace L. Diehl May 10, 1943 in Sauk City. Lily and Wally lived in Sauk City where they raised five children. Lily enjoyed caring for her family, gardening and playing bingo. She especially loved fishing in the local river, lakes and on the family trips to northern Wisconsin. Mom welcomed everyone to her home with lots of smiles. Her kitchen was always open with good German meals.
She is survived by her children, Howard (Karen) Diehl of Spring Green, son-in-law, Ken Soergel (Kay) of Milton, Mary (John) Holway of Madison, Margaret (Randy) Frosch of Sauk City, Janet Diehl (Steve Stoikes) of Magnolia, N.C; grandchildren, Mike (Jennifer) Soergel, Dirk (Liz) Soergel, Kari (Jim) McChesney, Megan Diehl; great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Lauren, Joseph, Lilliana and Benjamin Soergel, Katie and Alayna McChesney; sister-in-law, Marie Kirchner of Bainbridge, Wash; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Olga and August Hamburg, Loretta and Lawrence Thieding, Wanda and Pete Blankenheim, Emma Bloedau, Helen Bloedau; brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence and Ramona Bloedau, Carl Bloedau, Oscar Bloedau; daughter, Kay Soergel; grandson, Aaron Frosch.
A memorial service will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
