She is survived by her husband; daughters Virginia ?Ginny? and son-in-law Gary Gulakowski of Centennial, and Margaret and son-in-law Steven Neuffer of Eddington, Maine; son Greg Klein; sister Doris Slater of Washington, D.C; brother A.W. Wilke Jr. of North Hollywood, Calif; two grandchildren, and one step-grandchild. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Karen Kay officiating, at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Amelia was born May 21, 1904, in Krem, N.D., the daughter of Christopher and Christina (Machau) Knecht. She graduated from the National Business Training College in Sioux City.


She married Dewey John Hebeler on Feb. 28, 1928, at the Rock Branch Lutheran Church in Rock Branch, Iowa. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was the main stay of her life. The couple became instrumental in starting a new Lutheran church in Kingsley. The couple moved to Moville in 1937, where Dewey opened a Dodge and Plymouth Agency. They then became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. After her husband's death on Jan. 6, 1986 in Sioux City, she moved to North Park Retirement Center in Sioux City and lived there for six years. She then moved to Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, Neb.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, Trinity Lutheran Women, Moville Women;s Club, Bridge Club and the Meadows Golf Club. She also attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed traveling and reading.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dewey and Barbara Hebeler Jr. of Post Falls, Idaho; three daughters and their husbands, Audrey and Ward Peterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carol and Ron Miller of Dallas, Texas, and Connie and Ken Bartels of Dakota City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and seven sisters.

Pallbearers will be Don Bremer, Mark Hebeler, Tom Johnson, Jim Utesch, Rod Bartels and Bill Koontz.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Bellevue, son of Victor and Mae (Bauer) Koppes. He married Eloise Klinkenberg on July 20, 1948, at St. Raphael's Cathedral; she preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1991. They shared 43 years of marriage.
Norbert was a volunteer at Eccumenical Towers. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Surviving are three daughters, Billie (Bill LeGrand) Meyer, of Cedar Rapids, Dianna Morrow, of Dubuque, and Debra Peterson, of Moscow Mills, Mo; three sons, David (Gayle) Koppes, of Loveland, Colo., Denny (Carol) Koppes, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Wayne (Carla) Koppes, of Bucksport, Maine; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry Lynn; a grandson, Lee Morrow; three sisters, Geraldine Till, Jeanette Till and Janice Tigges; and his step-father, August Kramer.
A Norbert J. Koppes Memorial Fund has been established.
