John Lawrence Eischen Jr., the son of Margaret (George) and John Eischen Sr., was born on Aug. 14, 1922, on the family farm in Rock Township near Maryhill, Iowa. He was the youngest of 10 children. He attended country school, and then graduated from Cherokee Public High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Josephine Meier on Nov. 21, 1944, in Bow Valley, Neb. They made their home near Meriden, Iowa, where they farmed and raised their four children, Janice, Jerome, Jerald and Jeffrey. Farming was John's passion, and he especially loved raising livestock. He was an avid fisherman, at times taking trips to Minnesota and Canada. He had been a 4-H leader for many years, and served on the Cleghorn Library Board. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he sang in the choir and at many funerals. In 2006, when his health began to fail, John was lovingly cared for by the staff at Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee. He passed away there on March 23, 2012, at the age of 89. He is survived by his children, Janice of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerome of Cherokee, Jerry of Spencer, Iowa, and Jeffery and Reg'ee Harris of Omaha, Neb; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine, on Nov. 8, 2001; two sisters, Kathryn (Laurence) Kohns and Helen Eischen; and seven brothers and their wives, Carl (Marie), Sylvester (Edna), George (Harriet), Clarence (Beryl), Edward (Dorothy), Harry (Celestine) and Freeman (Bernice).

Bernice was born March 24, 1916, in Cherokee, to J. Edward and Pearl (Alexander) Pigott. She attended school at Immaculate Conception in Cherokee.
On Feb. 8, 1938, she married Freeman Eischen in Cherokee. He preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1989. They farmed near Cherokee for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bernice loved to work on her farm, take care of her animals and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Girardin of Raytown, Mo; a son, Tom Eischen of Hollister, Mo; brothers, Bill Pigott and his wife, June of Cherokee, and Leo Pigott and his wife, Nola of Hayward, Calif; and granddaughters, Mary Ann McCormick and her husband, Bill and their son, Cameron of Lee Summit, Mo., Linda Lujan and her sons, Kevin and David of Raytown, Michelle Girardin of Raytown, Jackie Johnson and her husband, Jake and their son, Hunter of Marcus, Iowa, and Barbara Eischen of Jackson, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Paul Pigott; and a sister, Cecelia May.

Paul was born March 3, 1914 in Sheridan Township, rural Cherokee, Iowa to Joseph E. and Pearl (Alexander) Pigott. He attended school at the Immaculate Conception School in Cherokee, Iowa. He married Mildred Reinert on May 29, 1933 in Cherokee, Iowa. He later married Vera Erdman on February 23, 1971 in Sioux City, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2000. Paul enjoyed farming, raising Black Angus cattle, and farmed in Cherokee County his entire life.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Paul took great pride in keeping up his home and also working on his 1956 88 Olds convertible. He enjoyed having coffee with friends and storytelling. He was a long time member of the Cattlemen’s Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Monica Robinson, of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughters-in-law, Donna Mummert, and her husband, Jack, of Plano, Texas, Ruth Pigott of Kearney, Nebraska; sister, Bernice Eischen, of Cherokee, Iowa; brothers, Leo Pigott, and his wife, Nola, of Hayward, California; Bill Pigott, and his wife, June, of Cherokee, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Vera), sons (Ronald Pigott and James Pigott), a sister (Cecelia May) a brother-in-law (Freeman Eischen).

Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow convent in Omaha, Neb., and a wake was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Convent on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Born Gertrude Rupp on Sept. 2, 1916 to George Anthony and Mary Elizabeth (Kohns) Rupp of Cherokee, Sister Mary Christina entered the community in January of 1940. She served the Ministries as an educator and librarian at St. Juilana' School in Detroit, Mich. from 1941 to 1945, St. Benedict School in Omaha, Neb. from 1945 to 1960, Holy Name School in Omaha, 1960 to 1966, St. John Berchman School in Detroit, Mich. from 1966 to 1973, and St. Pius X in Omaha, Neb. from 1976 to 1993.

She conducted her Ministries in parish work in Lucea, Jamaica from 1973 to 1975 and in Falmouth, Jamaica from 1975 to 1976. She has been involved in Community Service and has resided at the Motherhouse of the Servants of Mary Sisters in Omaha, Neb. since 1993.

Sister Mary Christina received her Bachelor of Arts in History from Duchesne College, Omaha, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Rupp;her brothers - Norbert, Raymond, Carl, Lawrence, Sylvester, and Father Urban Rupp; and her sisters - Florence Rupp Seely and Monica Rupp Sawyers.

Sister Mary Christina isis survived by her sister, Sister Catherine Rupp OSM of Omaha, Neb; and two brothers, Floyd Rupp of Sioux City, Iowa and Ralph (Herta) Rupp of Cherokee; a sister-in-law, Hazel Rupp of Marcus and a; brother-in-law, Randy Sawyers of Council Bluffs.
