Ritter, Spearfish, and Charna and Andy Monello, Rapid City; several great-grandchildren; a great-great -granddaughter due in March 2011; and a sister, Sybil Savey, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W 33rd Street, Sioux Falls, SD.

Judy was born February 15, 1923 to Bernt and Anna (Anderson) Ellefson at Volin, SD. She loved music and was an accomplished soloist, pianist, organist and choir director. She attended Augustana Academy on a vocal scholarship and went on to earn her teaching degree at Southern State Teacher’s College, teaching in a one-room school house before marrying the love of her life, Virgil Johnson, on June 3, 1946.

Judy embraced her role as a Lutheran minister’s wife and used her musical and teaching talents to serve as choir director, Bible School music teacher, soloist, and church organist. She also taught private piano lessons. Fluent in Norwegian, Judy translated pioneer yearbooks for the Augustana University’s Center for Western Studies and enjoyed two trips to Norway. Judy and Virg enjoyed 60 years of marriage before his death in 2006. Much of their retirement time was spent traveling and enjoying their cabin in the Black Hills.

Judy is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: daughter Janet (Jim) Keck, Eric (Norah), Kramer (Ashley), Peder, Ivy, Piper and Lyra, Leif (Bridget), Alex and Madeline, Jennie (Henry), Flora, Jamie (John), Ava, son Marv (Sheila) Johnson, Karstin (Chris), Alicia, Rachel, Emily (Owen), Mauve, daughter Karen Johnson, Nate (Kent), and Jenn (Jay). She is also survived by her sister, Lois Carlson, brothers-in-law Elmer (Nancy) Johnson, Helmer Haugland and Floyd Florey and sisters-in-law Helen Ellefson and Marguerite Johnson, many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Judy particularly loved spending time with her family and was always excited to learn that someone was a relative.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, sisters Helen Haugen, Clarice Fedderson, Olive Johnson, brother, Al Ellefson, brothers-in-law Murray Johnson, Albert Haugen, Kenneth Fedderson, Vernon Johnson, Roc Carlson, sisters-in-law Isabelle Haugland, Eleanor Florey, nephews Stanley Fedderson, Doug Ellefson, Matthew Florey, and niece, Shirley Ann Mulder.

She was also a Reliv distributor. Olive was a mother and grandmother to all.

Olive is survived by her son Byron (Angie) Johnson; daughters Barbara Albrecht and Susan (Jon) Davidson; grandchildren: Stacey Daerda, Justin Johnson, Nicole Kovac, Ashley Davidson, Travis Davidson, and Joshua Albrecht; great-grandchildren: Ariel Johnson, Kyle Kovac, Garrett Daerda, and Jillian, Elliana, and Nolan Kovac; and sisters Judy Johnson and Lois Carlson. She is preceded in death by her parents Bernt and Anna Ellefson, husband Vernon E. Johnson, sisters Helen Haugen and Clarice Fedderson, and brother Arvin Ellefson.
