Preceded in death by: a sister, Lillian Lampman.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar, rural Greene, with burial in South Vilmar Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Elizabeth Marie Schueler was born January 6, 1927, in West Point Township #6, Butler Co., Iowa, on the Schueler Home Farm, a daughter of August and Minnie (Jakel) Schueler and died Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. She received her education in the Brushy Mound Country School. As a young woman she helped out on the family farm.

On June 19, 1949, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Eugene Fredrick Salge, at Vilmar. To this union were blessed three children. Elizabeth raised her children and worked side by side with her husband on the family farm until retiring in 1984. She and her husband taught their children the farming operation and importance and care of their Century Family Farm.

She especially enjoyed gardening quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing games or cards with both her grandchildren and special friends. Elizabeth always had cookies in the fridge in case her grandchildren or great grandchildren should stop in. Elizabeth was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed church sewing days and game night. Living family members include: one daughter: Dianne (Ken) Cerling of Mt. Horeb, WI; two sons: Don (Vernette) Salge of Allison, Ron (Diane) Salge Bristow, six grandchildren: Michael (Renee) Salge of Greene, Michelle(Mike) Olson of Eldora, Matt (Kristin) Salge of Waukee, Sgt. Dan Cerling of Baumholder, Germany, Kristin (Nicholas) Niemann of Black Earth, WI, Melanie Salge of Urbandale; six great-grandchildren: Taylor, Kaleb, Brynn and Henry Salge, Ciara and Otto Salge; two step great-grandchildren: Jaelyn and Jordyn Olson; one brother, Bud (Joy) Schueler of Allison; two nephews: Doug Schueler (Tonnie Lemon) of Bristow, and Bob (Lynne) Schueler of Granger. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

She was born March 23, 1929, northwest of Allison, daughter of John and Lydia Trepp Reiher. She married Laverne Marvin Brocka Jan. 1, 1947, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 2005.

She attended country school at Ripley Township No. 1 and graduated from Allison High School in 1946. She grew up attending the Fairview Evangelical Church southwest of Allison.

Mrs. Brocka and her husband farmed, and she also worked for two years at Clark Nursing Home in Greene, and then for 32 years in food service at the Allison-Bristow School system. She retired in the spring of 2001, and she and her husband then moved into Allison.

Survived by: two sons, Gary (Tammy) of Dumont and Doyle (Ann) of Allison; five daughters, Dianne (Richard) Kleinschmidt of Plainfield, Rita (Bill) Wood of Waverly, Margene (Bill) Van Horn of Pella, Vernette (Don) Salge of Allison and Thea (Stanley) Wubbena of Monona; 18 grandchildren, Lisa (Larry) Borglum, Rick (Kristi) Kleinschmidt, Nathan Wood, Heather (Tim) Weiss, Holly (Nathan) Christoffels, Heidi (Eric) Ortegren, Zachary Van Horn, Hillary Van Horn, Matthew Salge, Melanie Salge, Whitney Wubbena, Nicole Wubbena, Stephanie Brocka, Lisa Slocum, Michelle Roose, Clint Brocka, Luke Brocka and Erin Brocka; 15 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Megan, Nicholas Borglum, M.J., Alex, Erica Hulsing, Macy and Owen Weiss, Kennedy, Parker and Paityn Christoffels, Titan Pearson, Chase Slocum, Megan and Justine Roose; two sisters, Marilyn (Dean) Cole of Longville and Carol (Darwin) Buhman of Guttenberg; a brother, Loren (Kathy) Reiher of Readlyn; and three sisters-in-law, Gladys Mae Hinders and Esther June (Paul) Schmidt, both of Allison, and Marvel Jane (Galen) Landers of Greene.

Preceded in death by: her husband, Laverne, on Aug. 8, 2005; her parents, a brother, Lon Reiher; and a sister, Phyllis (Lyle) Hansen.

Phyllis was born on Dec. 26, 1923, the daughter of John and Lydia (Trepp) Reiher in Butler County, Iowa, on a farm near Allison. She attended rural Butler and Grundy County schools and graduated from Allison High School in 1941.

After graduating she moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, and worked in the office of Viking Pump Company. While in Cedar Falls, she met Lyle W. Hansen and they were married on Jan. 27, 1946, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. The couple farmed in Grundy and Butler County. In 1956, the family moved to Denver and Phyllis began working in the office of the Rath Packing Company, where she worked for 28 1/2 years until she retired in 1984. In 1959 the family moved to a farm near Plainfield, where they lived until their retirement from farming in 1976, when they moved to Waverly. Lyle died in 1989, and Phyllis remained in her Waverly home until August of 2000, when poor health required that she move to the Linden Place. After a serious fall, she entered Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, where she was lovingly and compassionately cared for until her death.

Phyllis was a VFW Auxiliary member and past president of the organization. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary; was active on St. Paul's Lutheran Church funeral committee; and served on the board of Mitchell Manor for many years. She belonged to six different card groups and loved getting together with her friends and family. Phyllis was a great gardener, baker and seamstress and many family members and friends enjoyed her special rye bread, raspberry jam and apple pies. She always took special pleasure in serving and helping others.

Survivors are her four children and their spouses, Steven (Pam) Hansen of Waverly, Lynda (Gaylen) Hassman of Waverly, Loyce (Jerry) Dumke of Guttenberg and Curtis (Sandy) Hansen of Waverly; six grandchildren, Amy Launstein, Chad Hansen, Clint Hansen, Nikki Anders, Cam Hassman and Kevin Hansen; three step grandchildren, Steve Franke, Clay Dumke and Erika Clark; seven great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth (Lavern) Brocka of Allison, Marilyn (Dean) Cole of Longville, Minn., and Carol (Darwin) Buhman of Guttenberg; one brother, Loren (Kathy) Reiher of Readlyn; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle on June 24, 1989; and a brother, Lon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, Iowa, with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, Iowa, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Waverly or Cedar Valley Hospice.
