He was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, in 1832, where he was educated, and learned the trade of shoemaker, at which he worked eighteen years before coming to this country. His father's name was John, who was born in the same town, and trade that of shoemaker. His mother's maiden name was Mary Schmidt, who was also a native of the same town. Moritz Honer came to America in 1857; he worked at his trade a few months in Milwaukee, then came to Muscoda, and worked at his trade seven months; then went to Avoca, and established business for himself, which he conducted for eight years, when he bought the farm upon which he now lives. He has served the town as Supervisor, School Commissioner and Road Commissioner. He was married October, 1858, to Miss Adeline Paffenrath, who was a native of Germany, and by whom he has nine children - four boys and five girls - all living at home. Has always been in active life, and accumulated an estate by his own persevering efforts and industry.

Survivors include four children, Marilyn (Terry) Halverson of Lone Rock, Maxine (Ralph) Pulvermacher of Lone Rock, Tootie (Donald) Pulvermacher of Lone Rock, and Jack (Kenda) Gundlach of Lone Rock; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Bev Gundlach of Boscobel; a sister-in-law, Morna Gundlach of Lone Rock; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Ida Gundlach; his wife, Ethel Gundlach, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003; a son, Don Gundlach; an infant sister, Maxine Gundlach; a grandson, Andrew John Pulvermacher; a brother, Max "Bud" Gundlach; two sisters, Madeline Anderson and Evelyn Eichorst; and a step-grandson, Ray Simpson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the LONE ROCK COMMUNITY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. The Rev. Craig Peach will officiate with burial in the Lone Rock Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Lone Rock American Legion Post No. 383. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the RICHARDSON-STAFFORD FUNERAL HOME in Spring Green from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
