Birth28 January 1919Clarence P. McCluskey was born on 28 January 1919 at Wisconsin.
He was the son of Peter F. McCluskey and Anna V. Byrne.
Marriage28 November 1953Clarence P. McCluskey married Agnes V. Hess, daughter of William Godfrey Hess and Lorraine Iva Clark, on 28 November 1953.
Death3 May 2006Clarence P. McCluskey died on 3 May 2006 at age 87 Clarence P. McCluskey, age 87, of Plain, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, following a long illness. He was born on Jan. 28, 1919, in Bear Creek Township, the son of Peter and Anna (Byrne) McCluskey. He graduated from Lime Ridge High School in 1937. In 1938, he and a friend journeyed west to Montana for adventure. While working in Columbus, Mont., he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. As an infantry soldier in the 3rd Battalion, 161st Infantry, 25th "Tropical Lightning" Division, he was engaged in combat in the World War II Pacific Theater including the Battle of Guadalcanal and campaigns in the North Solomon Islands and Luzon in the Philippines. For his service to his country, he earned the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and other medals and campaign ribbons. However, like many World War II veterans, he did not receive his military awards by the time he was honorably discharged in 1945. The omission was corrected when U.S. Rep. Ron Kind presented Clarence with his overdue medals at a special ceremony in 2004. After military service, Clarence returned to his family's dairy farm. He married the former Agnes Hess on Nov. 28, 1953. Together they raised eight children. Clarence also served his community and was always ready to help his neighbors. He was a member of the Plain American Legion Post No. 398, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Loreto and was a charter member of the Spring Green Knights of Columbus. He served on the building committee for St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chairman of the St. Patrick's Cemetery Association for many years and was the wit and wisdom of the "Old Timers" sayings in the Loreto column in the local weekly newspapers. He was proud to be one hundred percent Irish. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Agnes McCluskey of Plain; eight children, Marty (Patsy) of Hillpoint, Sheila (Pat) Drea of Oregon, Kevin of Hillpoint, Shane (Maggie) of Lime Ridge, Kathy (Steve) Olson of Middleton, Patrick (Mary Ellen) of Plain, Brian of Hillpoint and Rory (Rowena) of Hillpoint; 12 grandchildren, Stacey (Jay) Akl, Brady and Cody McCluskey, Jim, Sean and Jessie Drea, Peter and Jenny McCluskey, Micki and David Olson, and Joshua and Jacob McCluskey; a special family, Tim and Chris Drea and their children, Benjamin, Keagan and Shannon; seven brothers-in-law, Adam (Janice) Hess, Albert Hess, Arthur Hess, Allen (Mary) Hess, Andrew (Sharon) Hess, Arland (Mary) Hess and Tom Roessler; a sister-in-law, Anna Marie Hess Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna McCluskey; two brothers, Bernard and George McCluskey; a sister, Florence McCluskey; two nephews, Mike and Phillip McCluskey; and two sisters-in-law, Lara McCluskey and Alva Roessler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 8, 2006, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Loreto at 2 p.m. Father Larry Bowens will officiate with burial in Our Lady of the Fields Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Plain American Legion Post No. 398. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2006, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Monday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Health United Hospice of Sauk City. The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green is assisting the family with the arrangements.
