Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8 p.m. with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., all at the Church in Bow Valley. Visitation on Saturday morning will be one hour prior to services at church. Pallbearers will be Luke Kathol, Emily Kathol, Michael Kathol Brian DeBlauw, Chelsy Kathol and Jennifer Suing. Elvira was born on January 13, 1914, at Bow Valley, NE, to Anton and Mary (Schnuttgen) Wortmann. She attended Bunker Hill School District 72 southeast of Bow Valley and lived in the Bow Valley area all of her life. She married Frank A. Kathol on May 12, 1936, in Bow Valley. She had been a resident of Avera Sister James Care Center since January of 2008. Elvira was a member of the Holy Family (Sts Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, the Altar Society, Christian Mothers, and the Bow Valley Rosary Club. She had great faith in God and a deep love for her family. She loved to garden, raise flowers and crochet. She retained a great knowledge of people and events from the past. Her grandchildren were especially impressed with her zest for life. Elvira is survived by 4 children and their spouses, Emma Lou and David DeBlauw of Rockford, Illinois, Leon and Marilyn Kathol of Yankton, Earl and LuAnn Kathol of Yankton, Alvin and Laurie Kathol of Bow Valley, a daughter in law, Mary Ann Kathol of Yankton, 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, a brother, Francis and Irene Wortmann of Hartington, 2 sisters, Theodora and Edgar Wuebben, of Wynot, and Josephine and John Olinger of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, on Dec. 11, 1987, at the age of 80, a son Mark, a sister, Eleanor Pinkelman, 3 brothers, August, Rudolph, and Monsignor Edgar Wortmann.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Monday at Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton. Visitation will resume at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with a 7:00 p.m. rosary followed by a Scripture service. There will be no viewing prior to the funeral service at the church.
Pallbearers will be his eight sons: Marcel, Vincent, Philip, Howard, Anthony, Matthew, John and Luke. Mark J. Kathol was born October 16, 1937, to Frank A. and Elvira (Wortmann) Kathol of Bow Valley, Nebraska. Mark married MaryAnn L. (Drotzmann) Kathol on May 31, 1960 at Saint Agnes Church. Mark farmed in Bow Valley with his father until 1964 prior to moving north of Yankton where he farmed for an additional 40 years.
Mark worked for Cimpl Packing Company in Yankton. While farming, he also managed the collection point in Hartington, NE, and worked at other points within the area. He also worked in the field staff department for the National Farmers Organization (NFO). He was a seed corn dealer for many years. He served on the Right-to-Life Committee, was an active participant of the Saint Agnes Catholic Church (Sigel Choir), a past member of parish council and was a member of the local Knights of Columbus. He was an active board member and manager of the Bohemian Farm Mutual Insurance Company and a member of the Bow Valley, Nebraska Park Association.
His most cherished activities included farming and raising livestock, fishing, gardening, playing cards, especially with his monthly card club. He also enjoyed umpiring, attending many years of baseball games and visiting with family and friends.
Grateful for having shared Mark's life include his wife MaryAnn; two daughters: Jacqueline (Francis) Loecker, McPherson, Kansas; Angela (Jim) Jorgensen, Volin; eight sons: Marcel (Peg ) of Volin; Vincent of Yankton; Philip (Diane) of Overland Park, Kansas; Howard (Kelly) of Gayville; Anthony of Martin, South Dakota; Matthew of Loveland, Colorado; John of Sioux City, Iowa, and his special friend Mary Ellen Bruening of Yankton; and Luke at home; and seventeen grandchildren.
He is survived by his mother, Elvira Kathol, of Hartington; three brothers: Leon (Marilyn) and Earl (LuAnn), all of Yankton; Alvin (Laurie) of Hartington; and sister Emma Lou (Dave) DeBlauw of Rockford, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank A. Kathol.
