Norman Wahl officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mercer, 70, of Rochester, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2006) at Seasons Hospice, following a six-month illness with cancer. He was born Dec. 16, 1935, in St. Charles. He grew up in the Rochester area and served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He returned to Rochester and worked for Holm & Olson Flowers and later Whiting's Flowers. In 1998, he retired after 27 years with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. On Nov. 18, 1961, he married Jane E. Pagel at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. She is a retired bank manager. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying and his German Shepherds. Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven H. (Jackie) of Charles City, Iowa; a daughter, Kay M. (Keith) Mahoney of Cannon Falls; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Wally (Helen) of Chatfield and Bob of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. He is also survived by a half brother, David (Tammy) Mercer of Rosamond, Calif. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. The family prefers memorials to Rochester Senior Citizens Center, Bethel Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.

She was born on May 28, 1946, the daughter of Gale and Victoria (Ligneel) Meade. After retiring from Ameritech in 1994, Kathy and her husband Mark fulfilled a lifelong dream. They lived aboard and cruised their sailboat "Shooting Star" through the Bahamas and the Caribbean for 12 years. They then relocated back to her childhood home of Lodi in 2006. The births of Kathy's grandchildren were the highlights of her life. Kathy is survived by her husband, Mark of Lodi; her daughter, Lisa (Shane) Lopez; three beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn, 14, Mitchell, 11, and Cami, 10, all of Tucson, Ariz; her son, Dan Skabula of Seattle, Wash; her son, Aaron Reichow (Jen Marti) of Jackson; granddaughter, Rachel Renee Reichow, 18; her mother, Victoria Meade; sister, Lynda Meade (Steve Willadsen); brothers, Mike (Cindy), Bob (friend Peg Howe), John (Patty) and Charlie Meade; many nieces and nephews; and four special great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gale Meade in 1988. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Lodi, with Monsignor Daniel T. Ganshert officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lodi.
