Son- in-law Donald (Marilyn, deceased) Stelmaszewski from Jefferson, WI; 22 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Doris is preceded in death by mother, father, 2 sisters, and daughter Marilyn. Memorial contributions suggested to Hospice of the Valley. Friends may call from 3-4 and 7-8 p.m.on Sunday, February 26, at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monono Drive, where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 Sunday evening.

Death14 December 2008Homer James Tonkin died on 14 December 2008 at age 91 Homer J. Tonkin, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Middleton Village Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born on April 20, 1917 on a farm near Mineral Point to Henry and Rose Mary (LaBounty) Tonkin. He graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1936. On June 17, 1939, he married Leona Klosterman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hollandale. They lived in Mineral Point prior to moving to Madison in 1942 where he was employed at Oscar Mayer and Co. for 39 years.During his career with Oscar Mayer, he held various supervisory positions until his retirement in 1981. Homer served for 32 years as chairman of the Credit Committee of the Oscar Mayer Credit Union, now known as Heritage Credit Union. Homer was an active member of St. Raphael's Cathedral, serving as secretary of the Cathedral for 26 years, president of the Holy Name Society and ushered. He was also a member of the Knight's of Columbus, Council 531, and the Madison Elks Club, Lodge 410. Homer and Leona loved to dance, especially to Big Band music and met many good friends at the Park Ponderosa in McFarland. Homer was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was always ready to offer a helping hand and many people benefited from his long and rewarding life. Homer resided in Madison prior to moving to Middleton in 1986. He moved to Sylvan Crossings at Westshire Village in Waunakee in 2005, to All Saints Assisted Living in July, 2008 and then to Middleton Village Nursing and Rehab Center where he received excellent care. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Rose Mary; an infant son, John Joseph Tonkin; wife, Leona in 2001; brother, Donald; sister, Dora Jane Koch; sisters-in-law, Betty Tonkin, Florence Gempler and Dorie Klosterman; brothers-in-law Lavern McCarville and Donald Koch. He is survived by his four daughters, Kim (Mel) Sumwalt of Middleton, Terry (Phil) Punswick of Reno, Nev., and Denys Tonkin Reese and Jill (David) Hilbert both of Middleton; a special nephew, Urban (Pat) Klosterman of Verona; 12 grandchildren, Eric (Karen) Punswick of Olathe, Kan., Jason Sumwalt (Lynette Linke) of Chicago, Dylan Hilbert of Green Bay, Amy (Jason) Spacek of Shawnee, Kan., Jacob Sumwalt of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kevin (Jennie) Punswick of Overland Park, Kan., Lara (Matthew) Wokasch of Newport Beach, Calif., Zachary (Mary Beth) Hilbert of Frankfort, Ill. and Brent Reese, Hans Hilbert, John Reese, and Ashley Tonkin of Middleton; eight great-grandchildren, Joseph, Lucia and Samuel Punswick, Anna and Johnathan Punswick, Avery and Jillian Spacek, and Fiona Hilbert; a sister, Gerda (Thomas) Hayter of Sun City Center, Fla; brother-in-law, Lloyd Klosterman of Dodgeville; sisters-in-law, Muriel McCarville of Hollandale and Idain (Jim) Carter of Blanchardville; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. Monsignor Douglas Dushack and Monsignor Daniel Ganshert will concelebrate. There will be visitation at the church, for relatives and friends starting at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Middleton Village - Harbor Wing, Dr. Haas, Nan Wild and the staff at Dean Clinic along with Hospice Care - Ann Winn and staff for their wonderful care and support.
