They enjoyed 33 years of happily married life. They succeeded by working hard and enjoyed many, many trips around the world. She attended Richland County Teachers College and UW-Platteville, where she obtained her bachelor's degree. Julie did her practice teaching at the Oak Grove School and Richland Center Campus. She began her teaching career in one-room schools from 1955-1960. From 1961-1997 Julie taught biology at the River Valley Middle School. She was so well liked by her many students and fellow teachers and her legacy at River Valley will never be forgotten. Julie was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Little Flower Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Retired Education Association, lifetime member of Sauk, Iowa and Richland County Retired Teachers Associations. She was also a lifetime member of the Richland Campus Alumni Association and UW-Platteville Alumni Association. Julie was a member of the Lone Rock Historical Society and the Lone Rock Alumni Association. She was the founder of the Scarlett Gems of the Red Hat Society. Julie was an avid member of the Travel Society and the Financial Group. She held many offices within her bowling leagues. Julie was president of many of the above organizations and, last but not least, she was the president of the two member sorority Alpha Cumma Guy. Julie will be dearly missed by her brother, Gordon (Joan) Poad of Lone Rock; sister, Lottie Schreurs of South Dakota; along with her six stepchildren; sisters-in-law, Ella (Sis) McGraw of Madison, and Elaine Bruhn of California; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Tay) Bruhn of Lodi, and Karl Bruhn of California; and many special nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, in-law, Charles and Lucy Bruhn; her maternal and paternal grandparents; sisters-in-law, Hazel Horne, Ellen Lewis, Pat Bruhn, Shirley Bruhn, June Gundlach, and Maxine Bruhn; brothers-in-law, Earl Bruhn, George Bruhn, Ken Bruhn, Wilfred Gundlach, Kenny McGraw, Lenny Horne, Bill Lewis, and Bob Schreurs; and an infant brother. Julie had lots of joys in life, but teaching was on the top of her list. She helped shape the minds of students by teaching students through experiment, to learn from success and failure, and to gain knowledge from those experiences; had been Julies's driving force. Julie demanded no more of students and colleagues than she demanded of herself, "To do the best that you can!" She leaves us still at the top of her game, in love with life, children and education. No word can ever fully express our love and admiration for Julie. She will remain in our hearts forever. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Spring Green. Father Mike Resop will officiate with burial in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Loretto, at 2 p.m. The procession will leave from St. John's Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
