Death16 October 2009Georgene Elizabeth Wintz died on 16 October 2009 at age 79 Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 19 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford for Georgene E. Guthrie, 79, who passed away Oct. 16 at the Milford Nursing Center.

Father Brian Danner officiated. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Milford.

Georgene Elizabeth Guthrie was born May 27, 1930 at Milford to George and Bernadine (Schemmel) Wintz.

Born as the fourth of 11 children, Georgene lived her entire life in Milford except for a few years in Glenwood, Minn. She worked at the egg plant in Spirit Lake, H.E. Jacobs and the Milford Cafe in Milford before being united in marriage to Milton Guthrie on March 13, 1948. Together they farmed for 61 years and raised seven children.

Along with her farming career and raising her family, Georgene was also an active 40- year member of the Milford American Legion Auxiliary, Rosary Altar Society of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Iowa Great Lakes Saddle Club, Pony Express Riders of Iowa and was a ten-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross.

Survivors include her husband, Milton; children: Deb Travis and her husband Mike; Rex Guthrie, Julie Goering and her husband Mark; Connie Gossman and her husband Tony; Karen Ackerman and her husband, Dennis; Jim Guthrie and his wife, Shannon; Ray Guthrie and Theresa Schierholt; 20 grandchildren including: Josh Travis and his wife Dawn, Billi Feller and her husband Keith, Sherri Barnett, Tammy Fredericksen and her husband Travis, Jim Bockman, Holly, Jenny and Joel Guthrie, Nathan May, Amanda Genzlinger and her husband Adam, Brian, Michal and James Gossman, Damian Ackerman, Calli Putnam and her husband Ryan, Kayla Ackerman, AmberLee, Nick and Samantha Guthrie and Tyler Guthrie; sisters: Carol Kaufman, Mary Alice Miller, Shirley Derflinger, Bernie Heavener, Violet Hafer and one brother Roy Wintz and his wife JoLean; brother-in-law, Lincoln Guthrie; two sisters-in-law, Marcelle Franker and Florence Mize, plus many other relatives and friends. Georgene also has 15 great-grandchildren and she loved them all equally.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three infant children; a grandson, Blake Schierholt; three sisters, Donna Belle (Roman) Nece; Evelyn Mae Anderson; Joyce (Paul) Anderson and one brother, Bob (Barb) Wintz, plus several other relatives.

Turner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
