Visitation and a rosary were at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Pallbearers were Brandon Eickhoff, Ryan Eickhoff, Josh Altwine, Eric Altwine, Chris Hochstein, Joel Hochstein, Joe Hochstein and Matthew Tenorio.
Honorary Pallbearers were all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Duane Joseph Hochstein was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Hartington, to Alfred and Threasa (Kathol) Hochstein. Duane served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1953. He married Delores Mae Goeken Oct. 19, 1954, in Fordyce. Duane has lived and farmed north of Hartington most all of his life. He also worked at the Hartington Cheese Plant for 13 years. Duane liked deer hunting, fishing, horses and going to auctions and sales. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, the Hartington VFW Post #5283, and a member of the National Quarter Horse Association. Surviving Duane is his wife, Delores, Hartington; eight children and spouses, Lou Ann and Terry Fischer, Platte Center; Rita and Paul Volk, Battle Creek; Debbie and Jerry Heine, Hartington; Bob and Valerie Hochstein, Grant; Chuck and Julie Hochstein, Hartington; Jeff and Mary Hochstein, Yankton, S.D; Kevin and Jyl Hochstein, Coleridge; Patty and Todd Pinkelman, Wynot; 33 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara and husband, Melvin, Kohles, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joey Altwine; and brother, Jerome Hochstein.
