She was born May 18, 1917, in Richland Center to Floyd "James" and Margaret (nee Hutter) Connor. At just 16 years of age, "Vi" enrolled in Sauk County Normal School; and one year later, in the spring of 1934, she graduated. The following year she enrolled in a two-year teacher's course at UW-Platteville. Her first teaching job was in a one-room school house in Wonewoc. Vi taught in southwestern Wisconsin, and later continued her career substitute teaching while raising her family in Eau Claire. On May 30, 1942, she married Joseph Collins in Reedsburg; and they celebrated 52 years of marriage. He died in 1995. Vi was an active member and past president of the Catholic Women's Club of St. Patrick Parish. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Anne (Timothy) Svoboda of Stockholm, Jane (Robert) Curtis of Eau Claire and Sheila (Christine Reisdorf) Collins of Minneapolis, Minn; three sons, James P. (Juanita) Collins of Richfield, Minn., Daniel (Paula) Collins of Eau Claire and Patrick (Lucy McNellis) of Hudson; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Collins; her parents, Floyd and Margaret (nee Hutter) Connor, two brothers, Leo and Floyd J. Connor; and an aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Carl Connor. The Mass of resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire. Friends may call from 9:30 until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Private interment will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christian Community Home, 1320 Wisconsin St., Hudson, WI, 54016; or to Bethany Convent, 1870 Randolph Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102. All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Service, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, Wis., is serving the family.
