Ed Lockwood officiating. Mrs. Jones died Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2003, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City. She was born on July 20, 1943 in Hartley, Texas, the daughter of David and Allene (Clark) Brame. She grew up in Fritch, Texas and started grade school there before graduating from high school at Phillips, Texas. On Sept. 20, 1960 she married Orvie “Pad” Jones at Borger, Texas. The young couple made their home in Fritch where he was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline. They transferred to Arapaho in 1965. In the late 1970’s they operated the Sunset Gas Station. They had lived in Custer City for the past 38 years. Mrs. Jones was a bus driver for the Thomas-Fay-Custer City School District, retiring in 2000. In her spare time Mrs. Jones enjoyed crafts, needlepoint and designing flowers for weddings. She was a member of the Baptist Church and Wheathearts Club. Preceding her in death, along with her parents, was her husband, Pad, last November; and a granddaughter, Crystal Marie Jones. Burial will conclude in the Custer City Masonic Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include two daughters, Jana Carter of Perryton, Texas, Leslie Jean Gaskill of Borger, Texas; a son, Johnny Jones of Custer City; a step-daughter, Reann File of Perryton, Texas; a step-son, Claude Lee Jones of Hockley, Texas; two sisters, Verna Lee Montgomery of Norman, Janelle Harvill of Stinnet, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Death6 August 2003Ruth Marie Wehnke died on 6 August 2003 at Wisconsin at age 65 Ruth Marie (Wehnke) Robbins, age 65, of Lancaster, died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born Dec. 20, 1937, at home at the Belmont Mound, the daughter of Harvey and Jennie (Jackson) Wehnke. She was a 1955 graduate of Platteville High School. Growing up, she enjoyed horses, walking uphill to school both ways and spending time with her girlfriends. In 1955, she met her future husband and soul mate, Andrew Gale Robbins Sr. They were married on July 7, 1956, at the Congregational Church in Platteville. After spending time as a military wife they settled in Lancaster. After staying home several years to raise her seven children and babysitting for several others, she started work at the Arrow Inn in downtown Lancaster for 10 years. In May 1991, they opened their own cafe in Cassville, called the Robbin's Nest until November 1995, when she retired to her cross-stitching, crocheting, crafting and going to auctions. She was a registered adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America, the Arrowhead District of the Blackhawk Area Council for more than 35 years. For many years she was on a women and couples bowling league at Fireball Lanes. Surviving is her beloved husband, Andrew Gale, Lancaster; three sons, Jim (Ann) Robbins, Beldonville, Gene (Rhonda) Robbins, Footville, and Jeff (Mary) Robbins, Lancaster; three daughters, Julie (Todd) Whyte, Prairie du Chien, Amy Jo (Ron Meyer) Robbins, Plover, and Lisa "Pete" (Chad) Abram, Prairie du Chien; her loving sister, Helen Cushman, Livingston; and her mother-in-law, Avis Robbins, West Liberty, Iowa. Ruth was a loving grandma to 14 grandchildren, Josh, Justin and Jason Robbins, Ashley, Taylor, Wesley and Shelby Robbins, Amanda (Chris Abing) and Amber Robbins, Seth, Mollee, Chris and Jon Whyte and Lydia "Liddybug" Abram. She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew "Buckit" Robbins Jr; parents, Harvey and Jennie (Jackson) Wehnke; a granddaughter, Kallie Jean Robbins; and father-in-law, Wilbur Robbins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at 11 a.m. at LANCASTER CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, with the Rev. Mark Dieter officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the LANCASTER CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH in Lancaster and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The Schwarz Funeral home of Lancaster is assisting the family. "God bless you, Ruth, Mom and Grandma Icky, we love you and will deeply miss you."
