GALLUP - The subject of this sketch was born in Vermont on June 19, 1835, and died at his home in Downs, Kans., on September 27, 1923, aged 88 years, 3 months and 8 days. Mr. Gallup spent the first three years of his life in Vermont, moving to Ohio in 1838, where he resided until he was 19 years old. He then moved to Illinois, where he remained until the outbreak of the Civil War and then he moved to Washington County, Iowa. Here he enlisted in the Army, enlisting in Company B, Forth-fifth Regular Volunteers, serving until the close of the war. Returning to Iowa he was united in marriage to Frances I. Wright on January 17, 1866. To this union frive children were born, one son, John, dying in infancy, and four girls who survive him, they being Mrs. E. D. Rountree of Lenora Kans., Mrs. Emma Cope of Norton, Kans., Mrs. Laura Gray of Concordia, Kans., and Mrs. Ella Beam of Downs, Kans. In 1872 Mr. Gallup, with his family, moved to Nebraska, where he homesteaded. In 1877 he moved to Norton County, Kans., where he resided until three years ago when he moved to Downs. His health was impaired while in the Army and he has been a constant sufferer all these years. He was a member of the G. A. R. post at Norton, Kans. Besides his immediate family he leaves eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and host of friends to mourn his passing away. God's finger touched him and he slept." The funeral services were conducted from the home Friday afternoon, September 28, by Rev. H. C. Atkins and interment was made in the Downs cemetery.

Mrs. Willoughby was a native of Benton, Ill. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Paducah and a retired Teller for the Peoples Bank, now known as Regions Bank. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with the ladies at Rolling Hills Country Club. Surviving are her two daughters, Paula Willoughby Shell and Lisa Willoughby Hayden, both of Paducah; her son, Douglas Floro Willoughby of Clarksville, Tenn; one sister, Norma Jean Gatewood of Knoxville, Tenn; four grandchildren, Jeremy Allen Willoughby, Clinton Nash Shell, Lucas Stephen Shell and Nicholas Van Hayden; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Paul Willoughby and Payton Nicole Samuel Willoughby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Willoughby, and her parents, Randall Floro and Lillian Nash Floro. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Keeling Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommie Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family today from 5 until 8 p.m. at Keeling Family Funeral Home.
