She died November 5, 2006 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 18 days. Carmen attended Alcester schools and graduated from Alcester High School in 1935. She married Marvin Staum on September 26, 1940. They lived their entire married life on the family farm south of Beresford. Marvin passed away in March of 1995 and Carmen continued to live on the farm until 2002 when she moved to Beresford. Carmen was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years and held several offices in church organizations. She worked at Morningside Manor in Alcester for 11 years. She volunteered at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford and entertained residents by playing their favorite songs. Carmen loved to cook and bake and was famous for her bean soup. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step mother Daisy Keiser, sister Fern Smith of Tulsa, OK and brother Clayton of Beresford. Carmen is survived by her son Roger Staum and wife Patricia of Daytona Beach, FL; granddaughter Tisha Scott and husband Corey of Jefferson City, MO; 2 grandsons: Jason Staum and wife Becky of Jefferson City, MO and Christian Staum and wife Lin of St. Louis, MO; 5 great-grandsons: Harrison, Benjamin, and Jacob Scott, and Phillip Staum and Russell Williams all of Jefferson City, MO; sisters-in-law Donna Keiser of Beresford and Lorraine Staum of Elk Point, SD; and many nieces, nephews, family and wonderful friends. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, November 10 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin Staum of Beresford and Mrs. Fern Smith of Tulsa, Okla; a son, Clayton Keiser of Alcester; two stepsons, Lloyd Heldt of Alcester and Leslie Heldt of Los Angeles and 10 grandchildren. She taught in both the Raymond and Alcester grade schools. Arline married Clarence TePoel of rural Alcester in 1945. The couple lived on a farm near Alcester, lived in Madison where she worked as a secretary for the Methodist Church, and lived in Sturgis where she worked in an insurance office. The couple retired back to Alcester in 1982. In 2006, Arline moved to the Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls, and lived there until the time of her death. Playing bridge was a lifetime passion and she belonged to many bridge clubs through the years. Arline also enjoyed traveling with friends to various parts of the country. Arline is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Stan) Hippen and grandson, Collin Hippen. Her husband, Clarence and her grandson, Tyson preceded her in death. Memorial services will be 2PM Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD.

Donna was baptized and confirmed in the United Church of Christ in Alcester and a lifelong member. In her younger years, Donna played piano for opening exercises of Sunday School and she also served the church as a deaconess. During her high school years Donna worked at the Barrymore Theater in Alcester. In the summer of 1944, Donna and an Alcester friend worked on a ship in Portland, Oregon to aid the war effort. Donna attended General Beadle Normal School in Madison, SD and received her teaching degree. She taught at the Rainy Vale, Big Springs and Finn rural schools.

She married Clayton Keiser in 1947. She and Clayton were blessed with four sons, Don, Vance, Mark and Lynn. Donna worked at Morningside Manor for over 35 years. She was a dietician as well as a receptionist in her years at the Manor. Clayton passed away in 2004 after 57 years of marriage.

Her favorite role in life was that of Grandmother. She and Clayton would light up when the grand kids showed up. They kept her and Clayton young!

Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Vance Keiser, Mark Keiser and Lynn Keiser; five grandchildren, Tammi, Tara, Chad, Matthew and Thomas; and three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Brenden and Kaia.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clayton; son, Don; brother, Kermit; and two sisters, Eloise and Gale.
