Wilbert was born on October 11, 1924 in Dickeyville, Wisconsin, the son of Elmer and Anna (Roth) Helbing. He was united in marriage to Lucille Loch on July 22, 1950 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque. Bert worked at John Deere, Dubuque, for eight years before farming fulltime in Smelser Township for twenty years. After farming he worked for Al Droessler Construction for a few years and then for many years he was a patrolman in Platteville Township. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Bert especially enjoyed family gatherings. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; four children, Diane (Stephen) Kolar; Dennis (Deb) Helbing; Kenneth (Sharon) Helbing; Steve (Liana) Helbing; ten grandchildren, Andrew (Shanna) Kolar, Jason and Scott Kolar, Chad Helbing, Jenna (John) Rankin, Krista Helbing, Haven Helbing, Kelsey, Karley, and Kortney Toso; three great-grandchildren, Colton and Mya Kolar and Sadie Rankin; three sisters, Hazel (Buzz) Knebel, Katie Tigges, and Lorraine Leute; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Donald and Darlene in infancy and Tammy, sisters, Marie Klaas, Berneice Pitzen, Mildred Pitzen and Melinda Helbing, brothers, Adam, Howard, Walter, and Harold “Dick” Helbing.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Haudenshield Funeral Home, Cuba City, where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on March 25, 1928, in Paris Township, son of Elmer and Anna (Roth) Helbing .

He married Adele Schiffman on July 27, 1955, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson. They formerly owned and operated the Greenhouse Tavern, Kieler, and Helbing 's Supper Club, Louisburg. Mrs. Helbing died April 6, 1998.

He also drove a milk truck and worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co.

He was an Army veteran with the rank of P.F.C. He was a member of the Tavern League Association and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting antiques of various items. He was an avid card player and enjoyed special occasions with his friends and family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Bernice (Leo) Pitzen, of Dickeyville, Mrs. Kate (Eugene "Doc") Tigges, of Dubuque, Hazel Knaeble (and friend, Buzz), of East Dubuque Ill., and Mrs. Lorraine (Richard "Dick") Leute, of East Dubuque; a brother, Bert (Lucille) Helbing , of Platteville; many nieces and nephews; and a special adopted son, Richie Turner, of Kieler.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Adam, Walter and Howard Helbing ; and three sisters, Malinda Helbing , Mildred Pitzen and Marie Klass.

She married Jim Knaeble, had four children, and was a stay-at-home mom. Hazel was a hard worker all her life and over the years was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company, the 3 Mile House, Brian’s Supper Club, and the Silver Eagle. Also, she and her partner and dearest friend Leroy “Buzz” Risley owned and operated a bar and restaurant, The Lucky Four. Hazel and her friend Betty Dreessens ran a cleaning business, The Happy Housekeepers. After she retired, she would faithfully visit family and friends at area hospitals and assisted care facilities. Hazel also volunteered at Manor Care, setting up the altar for Mass every Sunday plus helping with the social after the services. She was a great friend to everyone she met and was the world’s best grandmother. Her grandkids were her life, and they all knew this. They will fondly remember all the Saturday nights and holidays that were spent at her house. Hazel is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Jack) Nachtman, and Debi (Don) Klauer, and two sons, Dave (Sandy) Knaeble, and Dan Knaeble, and a special friend, Leroy “Buzz” Risley, eleven grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, two nieces, Randa Derby, Mary Ann McGrane, and special friend, Carol Tressel who loved and cared for our mom. She was preceded in death by her parents, twelve siblings, and their spouses, her former husband, her mother and father-in-law Edward and Marie Knaeble, and sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and Don “Ollie” Oliver.

Lucille was born on June 28, 1930 in Balltown, Iowa, daughter of John and Cecilia Rose (Stoeffel) Loch. She was united in marriage to Wilbert “Bert” Helbing on July 22, 1950 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2014. She worked alongside Bert on their farm in Smelser Township. She also worked at the Burgess Battery Factory, Galena Glove and Mitten Factory, Dubuque, and later at Advance Transformer, Platteville. Lucille enjoyed family gatherings, bus tours, and playing cards, especially Euchre.

She is survived by her four children, Diane (Steve) Kolar, Dennis (Deb) Helbing, Ken (Sharon) Helbing, Steve (Liana) Helbing; son-in-law, Andy (Courtney) Toso; ten grandchildren, Andrew, Jason and Scott Kolar, Chad (Jodi) Helbing, Jenna (John) Rankin, Krista Helbing and Haven Helbing, Kelsey (Ryan) Taylor, Karley and Kortney Toso; five great-grandchildren, Colton and Mya Kolar, Sadie and Colette Rankin and Evelyn Helbing; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Leute and Hazel Knebel. She was a graduate of Madison Business College and was working for Cuna in Madison as a benefits coordinator. Tammy was a member of Covenant Lutheran Church in Stoughton and enjoyed helping teach Sunday School. She loved to run and completed the Syttende Mai Run. She adored her get-a-ways with her "Platteville Girls". Tammy liked to entertain and loved to bake desserts and cakes, but her favorite thing was caring for and raising her family. Tammy is survived by her husband, Andrew; three daughters, Kelsey (12), Karley (9), and Kortney (4); her parents, Wilbert and Lucille Helbing of Platteville; a sister, Diane (Steve) Kolar of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three brothers, Dennis (Deb) Helbing of Platteville; Kenneth (Sharon) Helbing of Oconomowoc and Steven Helbing of Platteville; and many nieces and nephews. Tammy was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, Donald and Darlene; grandparents, Elmer and Anna Helbing and John and Cecelia Loch. A service celebrating the life of Tammy will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 4 p.m. at COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1525 N. Van Buren St, Stoughton, with the Rev. Mark Petersen officiating. There will be a time of sharing and remembrance on Monday, March 30, 2009, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the OLSON-HOLZHUTER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect, Ave. and again on Tuesday at the church from 3 p.m. until the service. Following the service there will be a reception in fellowship hall at the church. A memorial fund will be established in Tammy's memory. A special thanks to the staff at UW Hospital and Clinics and to Hospice Care of Janesville.

Ambie was born on December 16, 1923, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Valentine and Freda (Helbing) Roth. He married his one true love, Margie J. Sarazin, on July 25, 1945, in Dubuque.

He was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. Ambie served with Cannon Company 347th Infantry regiment. He crossed the English Channel on D-Day fighting thru France, Holland, & Germany. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Other battles and campaigns included the Rhineland and Ardennes, Central Europe. Ambie received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal, European theater campaign ribbon, Victory medal, Combat Infantry badge, European African Middle Eastern campaign ribbon, and numerous other medals. He ended his service on December 14, 1945.

Ambie served as Mayor of East Dubuque. He was formerly employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed farming, moving from East Dubuque, in 1966, to his farm. Ambie was an avid Euchre player. As of late, he enjoyed riding his scooter around the farm, especially back to the quarry to talk to his buddies.

He was a member of the East Dubuque Drun & Bugle Corps, UAW Local #94, VFW Post #7976 and American Legion Post #787, both of East Dubuque, Galena Elks Lodge #882, and the Galena Eagles Club. He was a former member of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department. Ambie will be remembered for the "great" man he was and for all the things he did for the people he loved and his community.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Margie J. Roth; a daughter, Diane Korish (special friend, Carl Langkamp), of Benton,WI; two (2) sons, Duane V. Roth, of Ash Flats, AR, and David R. (Pam) Roth, of East Dubuque, IL; six (6) Grandchildren; twenty-six (26) Great-Grandchildren; three (3) Great-Great-Grandchildren; his siblings, Darlene Gibson, Helen (Ron) Metcalf; and a sister-in-law, Lois Roth, all of East Dubuque, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine & Freda Roth; a son, Daniel A. Roth; a granddaughter, Tammy L. Roth; a great-granddaughter, Chelsie Jo Roth; his siblings, John Speaker, Carrie Johnston, Wayne, Edward, Louis & Donald Roth; and brother-in-law, Gordon Gibson.

Loeffelholz were married Wednesday morning at St. Mary's church in Kieler. Miss Kieler is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kieler of Kieler and the bridegroom is the youngest son of Mrs. Michael Loeffelholz of Dickeyville. The Rev. J.N. Greiveldinger celebrated the ceremony. Miss Elizabeth Kieler, sister of the bride, and Rudolph Loeffelholz, brother of the groom, were the attendants. The bride's gown was of white satin and lace and her floor-length tulle veil was fashioned into an embroidered and pleated cap, fastened with orange blossoms. She carried pink roses and baby breath. The bridesmaid wore rose colored satin trimmed with fur. After the wedding a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents and more than 100 friends and relatives were guests at dinner and supper. Rose and white decorated the dining room. A dance was held at Kieler in the evening, at which the bride wore a blue satin dress trimmed with fur dyed a corresponding blue.

The body was returned Monday, February 7, to the farm home from the Karrmann Funeral Home at Platteville, Wisconsin. Funeral services were at 9 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville, with the Rev. Adelbert Smetana officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He was born on May 5, 1920, on the family farm in Jamestown Township, Grant County, son of George and Mary (Kunkel) Kieler. He married Mary T. Loeffelholz on June 26, 1946, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dickeyville.

He and his wife farmed in the Platteville area. After retiring from farming, he was employed on the maintenance staff at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for 13 years, retiring in 1983. He had continued to help on the family farm.

He attended school in Kieler and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5274 and the American Legion Post 42 of Platteville. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kieler, at home; two daughters, Linda (Norbert) Noel, of Platteville, and Karen Kieler, of Denver; three sons, Robert, Gerald and Roger Kieler, all of Platteville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence (Ruth) Kieler, of Platteville; and four sisters, Elizabeth VanDeWiel, of Cuba City, Louise Kieler, of Dubuque, Sister Angeline Langkamp, of Lancaster, and Sue Wedig, of Belmont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Loeffelholz; and a brother, Edward Kieler.

Lawrence was born on March 13, 1926, in Kieler , Wisconsin, the son of George and Mary (Kunkel) Kieler . He married Ruth Kerkenbush on February 14, 1953, at St. Andrew's Church in Tennyson, Wisconsin.

Lawrence had a strong love and respect for the land during his many years of farming and livestock production. He always referred to himself as a plain and simple farmer. He enjoyed fishing and turkey hunting. Lawrence was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5274 in Platteville.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Platteville; five daughters, Jean (Gerry) Tauke, and Cathy (Dennis) Pregler, both of Dubuque, Rose (Kevin) Silveira, of Madison, Shirley (Bill) Buss, of Platteville, and Donna Kieler , of Madison; three sons, Louis (Ann) Kieler , and George (Jackie) Kieler , both of Platteville, and Ray (friend Maria) Kieler , of Verona; three sisters, Louise Kieler , of Dubuque, Sylvia Wedig, of Belmont, and Sister Angeline Kieler , of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Loeffelholz and Elizabeth Van De Wiel; and his brothers Edward and Joseph.

Sylvia was born on July 15, 1928 in Kieler, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Mary (Kunkel) Kieler. She was united in marriage to Wallace J. Wedig on May 26, 1948 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler. Together they farmed in the Belmont area. Sylvia was a member of the St. Philomena Altar Society and was also a member of the Kitchen Band. In her 50’s, she acquired her GED. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, bingo, crafting, gardening, dancing, and her making her infamous chocolate chip cookies. After moving to town, she worked at the Belmont Elementary School lunchroom where she enjoyed working and getting to know the students and staff.

Those left to cherish Susie’s memories include her children, Patrick (Mary) Wedig, Mary (Ron) Muller, Gerard (Bev) Wedig, Paul (Jane) Wedig, Jane (Jim) Pickel, and Sue (Dan) Baert; sister, Sr. Angeline Kieler, OSF; daughter-in-law, Karen (Steve) Loeschen; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; in-laws, Ruth Kieler, Bernie (Wedig) Weigel, Gary Lovell, Tom and Rita Wedig, and Sarah Klein; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Kieler was vice president of National Bank of Washington, D.C., for 45 years, retiring on July 1, 1971.

He was born on May 22, 1906, in Dubuque, son of John Henry and Frances (Brandt) Kieler. He married Theresa Basim on June 13, 1970, in Bowie, Md; she died in March 1986.

He attended Georgetown University and the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was active in community and business organizations including the Board of Trade, the Northeast Business Men's Association, Inc., and the Northeast Citizens Association. He also was active in the Knights of Columbus, of which he was a member, having received a certificate of Merit in l997 honoring his 69-year membership.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Flora (Frank) Lambert and Sister Ancilla Kieler , O.S.F., of Mount St. Francis, both of Dubuque; a brother, Carl J. (Patricia) Kieler , of Falls Church; a sister-in-law, Marion (Irvin) Kieler, of Dubuque; a niece, Sister Eleanor Lambert, O.S.F., of Dubuque; and many other nieces and nephews and their families.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lillard (Hazel) Kieler, Irvin L. Kieler and an infant brother; and a sister, Mae (Ar) Rice.

She was born on March 25, 1912, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Frances (Brandt) Kieler.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Oct. 6, 1935, and made final profession of vows Aug.10, 1941.

Sister ministered as a music teacher in the Iowa cities of Dubuque (Holy Ghost), Waterloo (St. Mary), Fillmore, Worthington, Ossian, Remsen, Ashton, Granville, Stacyville and Luxemburg; she also ministered in Crescent City, Calif.

Sister is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion; her nieces, nephews; and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared 77 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lillard (Hazel); Ralph (Teresa), Irwin, Carl (Patricia); and her sisters, Flora (Frank) Lambert and Mae (Arlington) Rice.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque.

She attended the former St. Vincent Academy and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, both in Dubuque.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Marie (Ronald) Kann, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Laurel) Kann, Debra (Jerry) Finkenauer, Keith (Mary) Kann, Tom (Paula) Kann, Steve (Nancy) Kann, Linda (John) Netti and Lisa (Mark) Kruser; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet, on Oct. 3, 1993; and a grandson, Jeffery Michael Kann, in 1974.

Clair was also fond of fishing trips with his sons and grandkids as well as babysitting his two youngest grandsons, Jacob and Luke. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Sinsinawa, with the Rev. Francis Steffen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at St. Andrew Church in Tennyson with Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors accorded. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 3:45 p.m.

Floyd was born on November 4, 1927, in Louisburg, Wisconsin, to Charles and Josephine (Kunkel) Kieler, and grew up on the family farm in Kieler. He attended Kieler grade school and Loras Academy for high school and ROTC School. He was joined in marriage to Ellen Kohn on December 30, 1950. Floyd served his country as an army sergeant in the Korean War. Floyd was also a proud John Deere worker, retiring in 1987.

Floyd was a man of many talented gifts but his greatest talent was the gift of carpentry. He constructed beautiful pieces for his family and friends. Whether it be a small repair or a complete bedroom outfit, it was always done with great detail. He loved to play cards with anyone that was willing, with his favorite being "Solo." He also loved being outdoors tending to his yard or garden. No matter what anyone needed, Floyd was always willing to give a helping hand.

Floyd also loved spending time with his family, whether it be his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. He always had time for you.

Floyd's faith was of the utmost importance to him being a member of SS. Andrew-Thomas Parish in Tennyson.

Floyd left behind four daughters, Diane (Dave) Konshak, of Cuba City, Denise (Ed) McKenzie, of Potosi, Donna (Tom) Digman, of Hazel Green, and Dena (Jay) Udelhofen, of Potosi; one son, Rodney "T-Bone" (Sheila Jansen) Kieler , of Cuba City; and a daughter-in-law, Dana Kieler, of Dickeyville. Floyd also left behind seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and a sister, Mary Ann Melssen, of Dickeyville.

Floyd was reunited with his wife, Ellen; three sons, Roy, Roger, and Richard "Dick"; and his parents, Charles and Josephine Kieler . He was also reunited with his sister, Margaret Melssen, and his six brothers, Ambrose, Leander, Clair, Charles, Harvey and James.

After selling the bar, Mary Ann ran Grandma’s Daycare for 25 years. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Council of Catholic Women and was president of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 228. Mary Ann enjoyed quilting, gardening, dancing, traveling, playing cards, but most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

He was a farmer, a Pride Seed Corn dealer, supervisor for ASC Office in Grant County for 15 years and served on the Board of Directors of PCA of Grant & Crawford County’s for 15 years. He was also a field rep. for Vigortone Products Company for 11 years. In 1941, he organized a baseball team in Kieler and managed it for 12 years. He started his own business in Kieler, Kieler Feed & Seed Co., Inc. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Francis is survived by 3 daughters: Janet (Leo) Friederick of Dickeyville, WI, Joan (Gary) Studier of Rockford, IL and Bonita “Bonnie” (Steve) Maring of Kieler, WI; 2 sons: Gary (Peggy) Kieler and Frank Kieler, both of Kieler, WI; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Martin Kieler; along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaretta (March 30, 2010), 2 sisters, Emeline Schroeder & Celesta Busch, 4 brothers: Ollie, Ralph, John & Harold; a son-in-law, Leo Friederick and a granddaughter, Sarah Friederick.
