Martin was born on the Kieler farm on June 19, 1923 to Lawrence & Elizabeth (Kunkel) Kieler in Kieler, WI. He married Marcella Muller on June 19, 1946. Together they farmed and raised their 8 children. In 1972 he and his brother, Francis, started Kieler Brothers Feed & Seed Co. Martin served 16 years as a Grant County Supervisor and 12 years as a Jamestown Township Supervisor. Martin loved the game of baseball and was a left-handed pitcher for many semi-pro teams in the area. He was a member of the 700 Bowlers Club, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, and Catholic Order of Foresters. He bowled on leagues for 43 years, played horseshoe and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Martin’s favorite pastime was dancing with his sweetheart “Marcie” to Big Band music.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella, of 73 years; 8 children: David of Cassville, WI, Daniel (Victoria) of Kieler, WI, Donald (Vicki) of Monona, WI, Mary Beth Hahn of Lee, MA, Debra Lawrence of East Dubuque, IL, Karen (Jim) Roth of Monona, WI, Katie (Harold) Christ of Florence, AZ & Kelly Kieler of Hartland, WI; 12 grandchildren: Grant Kieler, Jessica Benn, Clint Kieler, Blake Kieler, Jason Kieler, Stephanie Nemmers, Chase Kieler, Shane Kieler, Brittany Kieler, Sean Baragary, Samuel Lawrence & Drake Ferber; 14 great-grandchildren: Alissa, Jaydan, Jonathan, Winston, Marshall, Owen, Kendra, Jackson, Declan, Corbin, Kelli, Alisson, Parker & Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Oliver, Ralph, John, Harold & Francis; 2 sisters: Emeline Schroeder & Celesta Busch; a granddaughter, Heather and grandson, Jon.

She was a resident of Dickeyville for 55 years, moving to Dubuque in 1993.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish in Dickeyville.

Hilda's 88 years encompassed world wars and the Great Depression. The courage, faith and wisdom she gained from these experiences were passed on to her family and friends.

She loved her family, enjoyed music and the outdoors and had a ready sense of humor.

Surviving are two daughters, Sr. Patricia Kieler , SDS, of Milwaukee, and Patricia A. (David) Nemmers, of Winfield, Kan; a son, Ralph L. (Dorothy) Kieler , of Dubuque; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Viola "Ole" Steiger, of Woodstock, Ill., and Pearl Brandt, of Lancaster, Wis; two sisters-in-law, Celine Schmitz and Sylvia Schmitz, both of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Schmitz; five brothers, Vernon, Maynard, Orville, Leo and Leroy "Ben" Schmitz; and three sisters-in-law, Loretta Schmitz, Velma Schmitz and Rose Schmitz.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1916, near Kieler, Wis., daughter of Herman and Magdelina (Alt) Klaas. She married Henry A. Helbing on Jan. 16, 1935, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler; he died Nov. 15, 1994. They moved from East Dubuque to North Port in 1978.

She was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church, North Port, and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, and its altar and rosary society.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Tom) Donovan, of Dubuque; four sons, Dale (Joan) Helbing , of Dickeyville, Wis., Dave (Carol) Helbing , of Platteville, Wis., Henry "Butch" (Mary Jo) Helbing , of Janesville, Wis., and Rick (Kris) Helbing , of Nokomis, Fla; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Faley, Russ (Linda) Helbing , Mike (Karen) Helbing , Jeff (Denise) Helbing , Kim (Chris) Vanek, Scott (Tricia) Helbing , Lori (Tim) Lowe, Linda (Randy) Fenrick and Tim (Mary Kay) Helbing ; 21 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Leonard Klaas, of Platteville, Elmer Klaas, of Kieler, and Alban "Shorty" Klaas, of San Lorenzo, Calif.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, Ill., where there will be a parish scripture service at 3 p.m. He was born on Jan. 28, 1910, in Potosi Township, Grant County, son of Charles and Mary (Miller) Pitzen. He married Bernice Helbing on Aug. 31, 1938, at Holy Ghost Church, Dickeyville. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 31, 2008. They farmed in Paris Township. Farming was Leo's life. He was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, Dickeyville. Leo enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada. He loved the outdoors, animals and planting trees. Surviving are his wife, Bernice; five children, Gerald (Marietta) Pitzen, of Dickeyville, Mary Ann, of Dubuque, Bob (Peg) Pitzen, of Kieler, Lois (Ken) Muller and Mike (Diane) Pitzen, both of Dickeyville; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Donald Splinter, of Hazel Green; and four sisters, Isabelle (Frederick) Kreiser, of Lancaster, Delores (Marcus) Laufenberg, of Cassville, Lucille (Donald) Edge, of Superior, and Dorothy (Norbert) Burggraf, of Cave Creek, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Mae Splinter; four brothers, Frederick, Edward, Donald and Harold; and five sisters, Mildred (Lester) Reuter, Esther (John) Adams, Marie (Anthony) Udelhoven, Gladys Pitzen and Florence (Louis) Leibfried. The family would like to give a special thank-you to Home Care Select, especially Sally, Brenda, Dottie, Heather and Sherri for their special care and love, which allowed Leo to stay in his home for many years. Also to Dr. Michael Connolly and all the nurses and the staff at the Southwest Health Center Nursing Home.

Splinter on Aug. 9, 1969. She was previously employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, prior to her marriage to Donald, when she became a housewife. The church was a very important part of her life, and she was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. Her greatest joy was her visits with her grandsons, Logan and Zackery. Donna Mae was the recipient of a kidney transplant. In gratitude she was a donor herself at the time of her death. Survivors include her husband, Donald of Hazel Green; a son, Brian (Laurie) Splinter of Hazel Green; her parents, Leo and Bernice Pitzen of Dickeyville; two sisters, Mary Ann (special friend, Loras Simon) McGrane of Dubuque, Iowa, and Lois (Ken) Muller of Dickeyville; three brothers, Gerald (Marietta) Pitzen of Dickeyville, Bob (Peg) Pitzen of Kieler, and Mike (Diane) Pitzen of Dickeyville; and her grandsons, Logan and Zackery. She was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Ed and Wilda Splinter. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at ST. FRANCIS DE SALES CHURCH in Hazel Green, with the Rev. Cy Weisensel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the CASEY FUNERAL HOME in Cuba City, where the parish wake service will be at 3 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. They moved to Lancaster where Isabelle was employed with the Terwilliger family for over fifty years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, community, and church. Isabelle was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and was very strong in her faith.

Survivors include her children: Merlin (Elizabeth) Kreiser, Winston Salem, NC; Ruth Ann (Kenneth) Runde, Platteville; four grandchildren: Merlin (Claire) Kreiser, Jr., Sharon (Rick) Long; Philip (Monica) Kreiser; and Steven (Jennifer) Uppena; three great-grandchildren: Amanda Uppena, Jordan Kreiser and Jonathon Kreiser; her sisters: Dolores (Marcus) Laufenberg, Cassville; Dorothy (Norbert) Burggraf, Cave Creek, AZ; Lucille Edge, Superior; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick on February 6, 1966; her siblings: Mildred (Lester) Reuter, Esther (John) Adams, Leo (Bernice) Pitzen, Marie (Tony) Udelhoven, Frederick (Marion) Pitzen, Edward (Margaret) Pitzen, Donald (Mildred) Pitzen, Gladys Pitzen, Herold Pitzen, and Florence (Louis) Leibfried.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster assisted the family.
