Donnie was born on April 22, 1930, in East Dubuque, the son of Valentine and Freda (Helbing) Roth. He married his one true love, Cornelia J. "Connie" Campbell on July 19, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1998.

He was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of St. Patrick's Parish in Dubuque. He was formerly employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement, and was a member of the U.A.W., Local #94.

Donnie enjoyed hunting and drinking his famous "Apple Pie" with his Springbrook family, especially Roger & Sharon Pitts & family. He especially loved hanging out with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially Brandon, Amelia, Natalie & Ashlyn, and going to school for breakfast. He was so proud to buy his great-granddaughter, Hannah Kleinhans, her prom dress. Donnie loved to go gambling at the two Dubuque Casinos. Everyone that he had come to know he loved. Donnie will be remembered as a great cook for the Holidays, where a good time was had by all.

Surviving are his four children, Debra A. Roth (and special friend, Kathy Jasper), of Dubuque, IA, Jean M. (Bob) Fenton, of Casper, WY, Gary D. (Janice) Roth, of Seattle, WA, and Mark S. (Sue Jentz) Roth, of Bellevue, IA; nine (9) grandchildren; thirteen (13) great-grandchildren; his siblings, Amby (Marge) Roth, Darlene Gibson, and Helen (Ron) Metcalf; and a sister-in-law, Lois Roth, all of East Dubuque, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine & Freda; a grandson, Justin Munson; a granddaughter, Shuree Roth; his siblings, John Speaker, Carrie Johnston, Wayne, Edward, and Louis Roth; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Gibson.

Helen was born on October 2, 1939, in East Dubuque, the daughter of Valentine and Freda (Helbing) Roth. She was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, Class of 1958. Helen was united in marriage to Ronald Metcalf on November 23, 1968, at St. Mary's Church. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2014.

She was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its' Altar & Rosary Society. Helen was employed at Frommelt's, later known at Rite Hite, in Dubuque, for (18) years.

Helen was known for her big heart, and putting others first before herself. She enjoyed shopping and traveling with friends and relativeas, going to the movies, car rides and out for dinner with her grandchildren, and the special times spent with Abigail and her great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann. Helen loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and cheering them on. "Her pride and joy, and the apple of her eye was her great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann".

Surviving are her son, Bradley J. Metcalf, of East Dubuque, IL; four (4) grandchildren, Abigail (fiance', Jordan Block), Samuel, Isabel and Laila Sue; one (1) great-grandchild, Lilly Ann Metcalf-Block; her sister, Darlene Gibson; in-laws, Margie Roth, Lois Roth, Ed Splinter, and Victoria Metcalf, all of East Dubuque, and Jean (Derald) Schrobilgen, of Dubuque, IA; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine & Freda; her husband, Ron; a daughter, Sara Ann Metcalf, on September 17, 2008; siblings, Johnnie Speaker, Carrie Johnston, Amby, Louis, Wayne, Don and Edward Roth; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard & Helen (Maury) Metcalf; and sister-in-law, Doris Splinter.

Born June 1, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa, Steve was the first-born son to the late Eldon G. Burdt and Anna M. Helbing Burdt. Steve often called himself an Iowa farm boy reminding others of his humble roots helping on his grandparent’s farm in Wisconsin. He stayed close to home during college, attending St Ambrose University. After college, he joined the United States Air Force. He married Carol Ann Haskins in 1964 of Iowa. They had two children together, Elizabeth Ann and Sarah Jane. Steve, then a civilian, started his career in St Louis, Missouri in the United States Army Civil Service where he quickly ascended the ranks. There, he married Diana L. Reilly in 1971. They had two children together, Christine Nichole and Amanda Corrine. Steve was extremely proud of his contribution to his great nation. During his career he moved with his family to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and then to Fairfax Virginia, where he worked at the Pentagon. Steve spent much of his career at the Pentagon managing notable projects including Apache Helicopter, Chemical Demilitarization, Personnel Management and the Army-of-One programs. Steve graduated from the Harvard Kennedy Business School with a governmental MBA. After more than 25 years of service, Steve retired Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for the Defense Program Evaluation. Not willing to throw in the towel, he continued working as a government contractor for the US Army in the private sector for almost ten years at Potomac Research, Raytheon and STG. Steve retired finally to his brick house in Landfall in Wilmington, NC in May 2005...

Steve was a loving partner to Gwendolyn Larson and devoted father to his four daughters, Elizabeth Dritsas of Harper Woods, Michigan; Sarah Burdt Moyles of County Clare, Ireland; Christine Angleton of Rockville, Maryland and Amanda Atwell of Stow, Massachusetts. Steve was a beloved grandfather to seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Sean, Cara, Kayla, Clodagh, Shane and Ailbhe. Steve was an ardent brother to Hugo Burdt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Carolyn Duskin, Walnut Creek, California and loving nephew to Marjorie Stevenson, Orinda, California. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence J. Burdt.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Steve will be celebrated on Thursday July 25 at 12:00 PM at Saint Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach. Arrive at the Church by 11:45 AM as personal comments will be given by the family. Interment will be at Kenan Chapel at Landfall, Chapel Woods in Wilmington directly after the services. Please use Landfall’s Arboretum gate off Military Cutoff Road.

Dale was born on June 9, 1935, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Hilda (Klass) Helbing. Dale was employed at Dubuque Packing Company for 43 years. He married Joan Droessler on August 13, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, Wisconsin.

Dale was a volunteer member of the Dickeyville-Paris Fire Department and Rescue Squad for many years. He was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, Dickeyville. Dale was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to cheer on the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joan Helbing; a daughter, Lisa (Joe) Faley ; two sons, Russ (Linda) Helbing and Mike (Karen) Helbing; five grandchildren, Heather (Craig) Roth, Katherine (Matt) Lewis, Jessica Helbing, Ben (Haley) Helbing and Jacob Helbing; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, David (Carol) Helbing and Rick (Kris) Helbing; and a sister, Karen (Tom) Donovan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Norbert and Rene Droessler; two brothers, Butch and Stanley Helbing; a grandson, Casey McCabe; and two brothers-in-law, David Droessler and Bob Donovan.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1917, near Hinton, Iowa, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Sitzman) Ruhland. She married Norbert Droessler on Nov. 17, 1936, at St. Joseph's Church, Hinton. Lorene spent most of her life raising her eight children and farming with Norbert at Happy Corners. Lorene was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and the Council of Catholic Women. She loved her family and grandchildren. She always had a positive attitude toward life, and family times were her most treasured moments. She and Norbert loved their bowling and square dancing. Lorene had touched many and will be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. Surviving are seven of her children, Joan (Dale) Helbing, of Dickeyville, Pat (Diane) Droessler, of Hazel Green, Paul (Sue) Droessler, of Deerfield, Linda (Carl) Osterhaus, of Hazel Green, Mike (Cathy) Droessler, of Platteville, Beth (John) Satory, of La Crosse, and Rob (Terri) Droessler, of Cuba City; a daughter-in-law, Dianne (Rick) Kramer, of Hayward; a sister, Betty Meylor, of LeMars, Iowa; a brother, Tony (Dottie) Ruhland, of LeMars; and 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Norbert; her parents; a son, David Droessler; a son-in-law, Bob Donovan; a great-grandson, Casey McCabe; a sister, Sr. Mary Avila; three brothers, Francis, Art and Ben Ruhland; and a brother-in-law, Paul Meylor. "Ben" Ruhland, 98, a Le Mars native and lifelong resident, died Tuesday Oct. 3, 2006, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Ben was born May 25, 1908, at Le Mars, the son of John and Elizabeth (Sitzmann) Ruhland. On Jan. 5, 1932, he married Leona Kemp at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, and to this union seven children were born. The couple farmed and was engaged in a dairy operation for 44 years south of Le Mars before moving into town in 1972. After moving to town Ben was employed by Wells Blue Bunny as a groundskeeper for several years and also was in charge of all tree trimming at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds for many years. Ben was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council #1466 in Le Mars, and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Garrigan Assembly in Sioux City. He was also a member of the Milk Association and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1381 in Le Mars. Ben was also an avid card player and was not only a member of the Holy Thursday Card Club, but was a co-founder, charter member and president of the club. He enjoyed family, friends, cards, woodworking, and traveling, especially out east to visit relatives. Ben is survived by his wife Leona Ruhland of Le Mars; six children, Ron Ruhland and his wife Ellen of Remsen, Larry Ruhland and his wife Dorothy of Le Mars, La Vonne Loutsch and her husband Paul of Remsen, Dan Ruhland and his wife Charleen of Remsen, Mary Lee Neubrand and her husband Don of Le Mars, and Glenn Ruhland and his wife Alice of Le Mars; 24 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Tony Ruhland and his wife Dottie of Le Mars; two sisters, Lorene Droessler of Dickeyville, Wis., and Betty Meylor and her husband Paul of Le Mars; a sister-in-law Doris Ruhland of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a infant daughter Joyce Ann Ruhland; a daughter-in-law Mary Margaret Ruhland; two brothers: Francis and Art Ruhland; a sister, Sister Mary Avila Ruhland, O.S.F; a brother-in-law, Norbert Droessler; and a sister-in-law, Dona Ruhland. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. The Rev. Tim Johnson, Msgr. Michael Sernett, and the Rev. Roger Linnan will concelebrate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation at St. Joseph's Church will be after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., followed by a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus wake service. The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Ruhland, Larry Ruhland, Dan Ruhland, Glenn Ruhland, Paul Loutsch, and Don Neubrand. Honorary pallbearers will be Lisa Freking, Guy Ruhland, Curt Ruhland, Gary Loutsch, Russ Ruhland, Tim Neubrand, and Chad Ruhland.
