Don graduated from Wheaton High School in 1936. He was a Veteran, and served in the US Army during WWII, and was one of the 12 survivors aboard the USS Cherokee returning from Iceland, when it was struck and sank by a German torpedo, from which he received the Purple Heart.
Donald was a Cartoonist, and had worked with Wilson McCoy on the syndicated comic strip, The Phantom. He also worked at WGN TV News as their Political Cartoonist for many years. He also formed his own advertising agency from 1975- present. Donald was also listed in the Who’s Who of the Midwest. He was always of good cheer, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.

He was a member of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonist, and met 3 US Presidents.

Survivors include his wife, Carole (Collingbourne), whom he married April 14, 1951.
3 children: A.J. (Caroline) Moore of South Elgin; Alex E. (Mary) Moore of Elgin and Carrie Moore of Waukegan, IL , and close family friend, Chris Merritt.
3 grand daughters; Isabella, Sophia and Natalia Alvini-Moore.
His 4 cousins, Betty (Frank) West, George (Shirley) Karas, Edward Karas and Louise Corder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved daughter, Donna Lee Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Monday May 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial with honors will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home.
