Dale Huewe was born on September 15, 1929 at Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Jake and Leona (Thill) Huewe. He grew up in the Dell Rapids area and attended country school and St. Mary School. He farmed with his family and helped other farmers until he entered the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge while he served. After his discharge in October of 1952, he happily returned to Dell Rapids. Dale married Kathleen Sittig on February 14, 1953 in Dell Rapids. They made their home on their farm east of Dell Rapids for 34 years. Dale retired in 1987 and moved to Sioux Falls in 1988.

Dale was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids for many years. He later became a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Dale was a member of the D.A.V. in Sioux Falls and the Dell Rapids American Legion Post.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Kathy of Sioux Falls; his two daughters, Pam (Marlon) Mollet of Sioux Falls and Stacy (Darin) DeBoer of Brandon; his three sons, Randy (June) Huewe of Creston, IA, Gregg (Laurie) Huewe of Dell Rapids, and Cory Huewe of Sioux Falls; his twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brother Gerald “Buzz” (Pat) Huewe of Dell Rapids; and his sister, Virginia Smith of Hayden, ID.

Kathleen N. Sittig was born on September 7, 1934, the daughter of Edward and Naomi (Ehlers) Sittig. She grew up in the Renner area and attended country schools. She graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1952. She married Dale Huewe on February 14, 1953 in Dell Rapids. They made their home on their farm east of Dell Rapids for 34 years. They retired in 1987 and moved into Sioux Falls in 1988. Dale passed away in 2015. She became a resident of Bethany Home at Brandon in April of 2017.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids and later St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. She was active with Sioux Valley Vocational Services Auxiliary.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her brother, Wes and her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Pam (Marlon) Mollet of Sioux Falls and Stacy (Darin) DeBoer of Brandon; her three sons, Randy (June) Huewe of Creston, IA, Gregg (Laurie) Huewe of Dell Rapids, and Cory Huewe of Sioux Falls; and her twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The brides ballerina length gown of chantilly-type lace and nylon tulle over white satin was fashioned with the entire bodice of lace with small, reginey collar and long tapered sleeves of lace. The skirt was of tulle and lace panel alternating from the waist. The entire gown was underlined with satin. The princess crown of pearls, sequins, and sparkling rhinestones held her fingertip length veil of illusion with a five inch Valenciennes lace edge. She carried a white Bible showered with streamers and topped with a lavender orchid and stephonotis. Mrs. John Haas, sister-in-law of the bride, maid of honor wore lilac ballerina length gown. It was a strapless fashioned gown of nylon net over taffeta with a lace bolero. She wore a matching sweethart picture hat und carried a heartshaped bouquet of yellow sweetheart roses and stephanotis. Dorothy Anne Randmjwr, cousin of the bride was flower girl, wore a blue puckered nylon dress made with a tiered skirt. She carried a heartshaped bouquet of light pink sweetheart roses and sftplumotis. Larry Rttndcckcr, cousin of the bride, carried the rings on heart shaped satin pillow on which were embroidered two blue birds in flight carrting white satin ribbons in their bills which held the two wedding rings. James Engelke, brother of the groom, served as best man. Melvin and Lawrence Haas, brothers of the bride ushered. For the occasion the bride's mother wore a purple dress and the grooms mother wore navy, blue. They pinned to their dresses corsages of white carnations. A reception followed in the church parlors. The tiered wedding cake, topped with miniature figures of bride and -bridegroom and two' doves each holding a wedding ring, was cut and served by Mrs. Emma Haas after the bridal couple cut the first piece of cake... Mrs. Engelke, a graduate of Mt. Carroll, Ill., high school, taught school several years around Massbach. After graduating from the Platteville high school, Mr. Engelke spent two year with the Marine Corp and and then has been engaged in farming near Platteviile where the couple will live.

Death15 February 2022Mary Lydia Haas died on 15 February 2022 at age 94 Mary Engelke, age 94, of Stockton, IL passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Lena Living Center. She was born April 15, 1927 in Massbach, IL to the late Henry and Lydia (Zink) Haas. Mary married Paul Engelke on February 14, 1954. Paul passed away May 13, 2008.

Mary was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton. She was a 1944 High School graduate and went on to attend Platteville State Teacher College. Mary and Paul farmed in the Platteville area for a few years before moving to Stockton in 1958. They owned and operated Engelke Feed Services in Chadwick for 11 years. On March 1, 1971 they purchased a department store in Stockton known as Mary’s Shoppe. She loved to canning and gardening.

Mary is survived by several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Haas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her brothers, John Haas, Melvin Haas and Lawrence Haas; and her infant sister.

A private family service will be held. Interment will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Massbach.
