Mrs. Simmerly was born to the late Murty and Ollie (Kennedy) Whitley near Hannibal, Missouri at what was known as Pump House Hollow. In her younger days, she worked and lived in the Saint Louis area for 16 years, before coming to Bourbon to make her home. Mrs. Simmerly was employed for over 20 years at Paramount Headwear Company as a custodian until ill health caused her retirement. She enjoyed collecting ceramic figurines such as chickens, angels and dolphins. She also collected chiming clocks and dolls. Mrs. Simmerly was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon and a member of the Ladies Aide.
Mrs. Simmerly was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Sue Shuck; five brothers, one in infancy, Charlie, Bill, Russell, and Murty Whitley; and two sisters, Daisy Lawrence and Lola.

Interment was in Hill Cemetery.
