Death2 August 2007Merlin Emil Ziebell died on 2 August 2007 at age 85 Merlin E. Ziebell, 85, of Watertown, died Thursday morning, Aug. 2, 2007, at Watertown Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. James Werner officiating.

Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown with military graveside rites conducted by the Watertown Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church or Lakeside Lutheran High School.

Merlin was born in Waterloo on May 29, 1922, son of the late Emil and Ada (Schroeder) Ziebell. On June 30, 1956, he married LaVerne Friede at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Merlin graduated from Watertown High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in World War II. He had been employed at Sentry Equipment in Oconomowoc for many years. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, its choir and bell choir. He was also an honorary member of the Turner Hall in Watertown. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed swimming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Ziebell of Watertown; six children, Connie (Dwight) Brunk of Watertown, Kathy Brunk of Watertown, James (Terri) Ziebell of Lake Mills, Timothy (Audrey Gritzner) Ziebell of Watertown, Christine (Jeffrey) Ready of Watertown and Sheri (Noah) Gollakner of Reeseville; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is further preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Brunk; and three sisters, Evelyn Braunschweig, Hazel Ziebell and Sylvia Lemke.

Survivors include the widow, Delcie; two sons, Albert and Wayne, both of Barstow; five daughters, Mrs. Emma White, Mrs. Shirley Lucero, Geraldine, Christine and Georgia Fischer, all of Barstow, three brothers, George and John Fischer of Arkansas and Gus Fischer of Chicago, one half-brother, Wes Shaw of Arkansas and two sisters, Mrs Mary Wellingnoll of Arkansas and Mrs Annie Fischer of Missouri.
Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors.

Shirley Cuba, Geraldine Simpson, Christine Rudalf, and Georgia Caldwell;
brother, Albert L. Fischer Jr; and by his adopted grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Delcie Dee Fischer and Albert L. Fischer Sr.
A service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Mead Mortuary,
36930 Irwin Road. There will be a potluck reception following the graveside
service at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 29041 Highway 58.
