Services will be at noon Thursday, Sept. 29, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson, with the Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Martin Funeral Home, Potosi, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on April 22, 1921, in Tennyson, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Schmitz. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Andrew High School in Tennyson.

She married Karl Brandt on Aug. 26, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Coupeville, Wash. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before his death on Sept. 10, 2002.

Pearl was a selfless person who always put others' needs ahead of her own. She took pride in keeping a comfortable and welcoming home along with serving delicious meals and desserts. Her pies and sweet rolls were only two of her many specialties. She loved spending time laughing with family and friends while enjoying a good game of cards. Pearl drew strength and comfort from her faith. She was a devoted Catholic whose rosary beads were never far from her.

Surviving are her four children, Sue (Richard) Benson, of East Moline, Ill., Dennis (Brenda) Brandt, of Onalaska, Bonnie (Rand) Sortland, of Hudson, and Ron (Cindy) Brandt, of Lancaster; a sister, Viola Steiger; three sisters-in-law, Sylvia, Celine and Babe; a brother-in-law, Donald; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James and Jerry; a grandson, Rick; four brothers, Maynard, Orville, Leo and Leroy; and a sister, Hilda.

She devoted her life to caring for others, and embraced life, especially enjoying her trips up north and get-togethers with family and friends. Madonna’s greatest joy came from loving her grandchildren, who fondly called her “Butzie.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Emeline (Kieler) Schroeder; a sister, Dorothy Mae Wedig; a brother, Dennis Schroeder; and two brothers-in-law, Keith Wedig and Tom “Jim” Dent.

Truman was born on April 3, 1934 to John & Mildred (Dearth) Bowden in Lafayette County, WI. He married Madonna Schroeder of Kieler, WI on July 15, 1953. They were married for 55 years and raised 7 children. Truman served in the US Navy Reserves during the Korean War Conflict. He farmed for many years before becoming a semi-truck driver. He drove from coast to coast, earning the ‘Million Mile Safe Driving’ award. Truman was a storyteller who entertained everyone who had time to listen. He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing, especially the old cowboy ballads. He will be remembered by many for the bluebird houses he built and gave away to anyone willing to put them up in their yards. He was an avid NBA fan and especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls. Above all, Truman loved spending time with his grandchildren, creating personal experiences and memories with each and every one of them. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Truman is survived by his 7 children: Sandra (Bob) Brownell of Dubuque, IA, Arthur Bowden of Cuba City, WI, Linda (Jim) Jegerlehner of Dubuque, IA, Robert (Belinda) Bowden of Lakewood, WA, Margaret (Gregg) Kelly of Cuba City, WI, James (Melody) Bowden of Dubuque, IA and William (Kelly) Bowden of Baraboo, WI; 2 sisters: Margaret Vail and Mary Bowden; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Madonna (February 22, 2009) and 6 brothers: John, Warren, Fred, Lawrence, Phillip and Lloyd, as well as many sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law.

Rita Jane enjoyed vacationing in the Black Hills & Yellowstone, but her most cherished vacations were spent with her family and friends in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, a tradition she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jack was born on June 8, 1935 to Harold & Mildred (Leppla) Tracy in Platteville, WI. He married Rita Jane Schroeder on May 7, 1955 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI. He worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for 25 years and then at Midwest Motorsports in Kieler, WI for almost 25 years until he retired at the age of 79. Jack enjoyed helping people, telling jokes, traditional country music, Johnny Cash, vacationing in the Black Hills, Yellowstone & the Northwoods of Wisconsin and was a founding member of the Moonshiner’s Snowmobile Club in Kieler, WI. But most of all, Jack enjoyed time spent with his family, grandchildren and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rita Jane; 7 children: Cindy (Mike) Klein of Leisure Lake, IA, John (Jay) Tracy of Raleigh, NC, Mimi (John) VanNatta of Dickeyville, WI, Joe (Kim) Tracy of Reno, NV, Jeff “Reno” (Carol) Tracy of Platteville, WI, Philip (Niki) Tracy of Baraboo, WI and Kate (Keith) Landowski of Wauconda, IL; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; along with in-laws and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Arthur “Jim” Tracy, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and many in-laws.

Linda was born on December 28, 1945 to Arthur & Emeline (Kieler) Schroeder. She was a graduate from Cuba City High School and lived in Kieler, WI most of her life. She was previously married to Kenny Kieffer. Linda’s biggest pride was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, writing in her diary, talking on the phone, going for walks and family gatherings. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Linda is survived by 3 children: Tim (Monica) Kieffer of Hartford, WI, Patti (Scott) Smith of Dubuque, IA and Julie (Terry) Redfearn of Hazel Green, WI; 6 grandchildren: Chelsea Kieffer, Cody Kieffer, Kaitlyn (Fred Mihalakis) Wallus, Jessica Smith, Spencer Schuchart & Jordyn (Andrew Molzof) Schuchart; 6 great-grandchildren: Kamryn, RJ, Oliver, Peyton, Cash & Kaydence; a sister, Audrey (Aaron) Digman of Monroe, WI; a sister-in-law, Toki Schroeder of Dickeyville, WI; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rebecca Koeller and 5 siblings: Betty Rose (Jim) Dent, Madonna (Truman) Bowden, Dorothy Mae (Keith) Wedig, Rita Jane (Jack) Tracy and Dennis Schroeder.

Keith was born on Jan. 12, 1930, in New Diggings township, the son of Sylvester and Mary Ann (Hoppenjan) Wedig. He married Dorothy Mae Schroeder on Aug. 13, 1952, in Kieler.

They were blessed with 11 children; 31 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Keith and Dorothy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their family and friends. Keith farmed in the Belmont area for more than 30 years and delivered the Shopping News for the past several years. Keith was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1953.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Darlington; 11 children; 31 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters, Betty (Bill) Smith of Lebanon, Ore., Jere (Ken) McCarville of South Beloit, Ill., Bill Wedig of Monroe Center, Ill., Ellen Wedig of Belmont, Yvonne Wedig of Madison, Art (Betty) Wedig of Cuba City, Louise (Don) Westburg of Madison, Jim Wedig of Verona, and Mary (Les) Schultz of Ponca City, Okla.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Jan Wedig.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at ST. PHILOMENA'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Belmont, with the Rev. Monte Robinson and the Rev. Charles Schluter officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Elk Grove.

Wackershauser, age 84, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Lancaster, passed away at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, on Thursday evening, January 22, 2009, after a very short battle with pneumonia and acute leukemia. Virgil was born September 12, 1924, to Henry & Lillian (Eggers) Wackershauser. Virgil grew up near Dickeyville (Big Patch/Georgetown area). He was the middle child and had one sister and 4 brothers. He was proud of the fact that he graduated from eight grades in six years, as he got to skip a couple grades in school. On Jan. 11, 1945, he was united in marriage with Eunice Place in Platteville. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1997. Virgil & Eunice began their married life on a small farm near Dickeyville, but moved shortly thereafter to the current family farm near Lancaster/Stitzer area, where they raised a son and three daughters. In 1975, they retired from the farm and bought a home in Lancaster. In 2003, Virgil moved to Prairie du Chien. He married Violet Koecke on July 15, 2003, in Prairie du Chien. They currently reside there. During his farming days, Virgil managed to work at a variety of jobs off the farm as well. Over those many years, he hauled cattle and milk for his brother, hauled milk at the Livingston Creamery, worked at a feed mill in Belmont, fertilizer plant & Wasco in Stitzer, plowed snow & highway work for the Grant Co. Highway Dept., read meters for REA, delivered the Shopping News, was a carpenter, and was once the town chairman for Liberty Township and farming for many years. He enjoyed helping others with remodeling or building projects, doing yard work and gardening, or any other handyman jobs that came along. Virgil enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, bus trips to the casinos, watching basketball and baseball games, attending Amish sales, and fishing with his buddies. He enjoyed talking and cracking jokes to anyone he knew, even making his grandchildren giggle. With his busy travels in life, he always had plenty of time set aside for family and friends. He truly adored his children and grandchildren! He was a member of the Bagley Methodist Church.

Virgil is survived by his wife of five years, Violet of Prairie du Chien, one son: Carson (Mary) of Lancaster; three daughters: Patty (Larry) Reed, Platteville; Sandy (Rich) Soles, Mt. Hope; Lou Ann (Jim) Blackburn, Bagley. Also surviving are grandchildren: Brian (Kristi), Laura, and Jennifer Wackershauser; Chris (Brenda) Reed and Candace (Bill) Reid; Hillary (Marty Bement) Soles, Tanisha Soles, and Justin (Jessi) Soles; Travis (Anne) Blackburn and Lacy (Jesse) Chapiewsky. Great Grandchildren surviving are John & Katie Wackershauser, Morgan & Taylor Reid, Hanna & Emma Reed, Carter & Addison Blackburn, and Cooper & Ty Chapiewsky. Virgil is survived by four brothers: Wilfred Bud, Embert, Henry Joe, and Louis and numerous nieces & nephews, brother- & sister-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice, his parents-Henry & Lillian, his sister, Hiltrude Crapp, and several in-laws.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday. Cremation followed, with burial at the Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
