Birth9 March 1950Larry Edwin Berg was born on 9 March 1950 at Eureka, Kings, California.
He was the son of William Axel Berg and Irene Emily Racek.
Death9 February 2008Larry Edwin Berg died on 9 February 2008 at Reno, Nevada, at age 57 Larry E. Berg, 57, passed away on Feb. 9, 2008 in Grass Valley, Calif. He was born on March 9, 1950 in Eureka, Calif. to William Berg and Irene (Raeck) Berg of Eureka, Calif.

Larry attended Pomona and Long Beach State Universities. He worked eight years with Fluer Corporation as a designer and supervisor. He worked the Alaskan Pipeline and in Saudi Arabia until 1982. He traveled all over the world while working in Saudi Arabia because of the 8 weeks vacation he had each year. Larry did some consulting work in 1984, 1985 and 1995. He then retired to take up his hobbies of kayaking, from 1989 to 2007 and then flying a private plane from 1974 to 2006.

Larry was a man of few words except for discussions on the Bush Administrations. Larry's passions in life were flying and kayaking. Of the two, he spent most of his time kayaking and this was where he made all of his friendships in his adult life. When he took his friends and family to fly with him, he always wanted to fly over the Middle Fork Feather River, his favorite river to kayak here locally in Chico. Larry lived a very spartan lifestyle and was famous among kayakers for spending his summers camped at Cherry Creek, his favorite class V river and people would come and knock on his van to go down the river with him. He and his van were fixtures at Cherry Creek every summer. Through his friends in kayaking, he traveled the world to places like New Zealand and South America on kayaking adventures and got many invitations to kayak the Grand Canyon. Out of the twelve trips down the Grand Canyon, one year he did two trips back to back. Larry was friends with and did many kayaking trips with the head of the California Chapter of American Whitewater, Dave Steindorf, including many exploratory and flow study trips for American Whitewater.

Larry is survived by his brother, James W. Berg (Julia) of Reno, Nevada; niece, Lisa Berg of Laguna Beach, Calif; niece, Bridget Cronk of Napa, Calif. and great-nephew, Caleb Cronk of Napa, Calif.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the South Yuba River State Park, commonly called Bridgeport Park. Officiating the service was Dave Steindorf, California Stewardship Director of the American Whitewater organization.
