DateLocationDescription
1896In 1896 Nelson Finn, living about one mile east of town is, as far as known, the oldest man in Union county, if he lives until next December, he will be 90 years old, and the old gentleman appears to be as light of step as the average man of 65. He has been able to do chores about the farm and cultivate a small garden until this spring. His lungs are troubling him a little now which obliges him to spend his time in the house a great deal. He has been a resident of this county for the past twenty-seven years, coming here from Wisconsin. He was born in Saratoga county, NY in 1806, his wife is 80 years old, this venerable pair now passing down the decline of life can give many interesting reminiscences of frontier life in Dakota. Mr. Finn is Republican, casting his first vote with that party for Abraham Lincoln, prior to that time he was an Andrew Jackson democrat. He has reared quite a large family, and has between 30 and 40 grandchildren. Of his children quite a number are living in this vicinity. There being eight children, 23 grand-children and 18 great-grandchildren. - Union County Courier 29 May 1896.
