Claude Saldanha officiating. Burial will be in the New Underwood Cemetery. A rosary will be said Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Behrens Mortuary, Rapid City. Bruns was born in New Underwood April 16, 1911. He attended school here and lived on a ranch 2.4 miles south of town. He married Winnie Mae Ivory here in 1944. Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons. Thomas, a U. S. Army captain stationed at Fort Hood, Tex., Donald, Army 1st lieutenant stationed in Korea, and Gale, Spearfish; and one daughter, Rose Marie, at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Helena Bruns, Rapid City; and five sisters: Mrs. Delores Thalken, Columbus, Neb; Mrs, Harold (Alvlna) Heil and Mrs. Harold (Helen) Cox, both of New Underwood; Mrs. Fay (Viola) Glover. She graduated from Clarke College and took graduate courses at the University of Iowa. Jean had a lifelong commitment to education starting her career as a teacher in Maquoketa, Iowa. Over the years she attended classes at Clarke College, Loras College and the University of Dubuque. She also worked at the Telegraph Herald and Interstate Power before marrying Alan and raising their family. Jean was a beloved and devoted mother.

She was a member of the Theresians, the Mother’s Club and the Clarke College Sorority Club. She also volunteered at polling locations on election days.

Jean is survived by three sisters, Anne (Tom) Eulberg, Carole (T.J.) Welu and Joy (Tom) Beacom. Five children, Kathy (Alan) Wedig, Steve (Melissa) Kean, Karen (Doug) Reiman, Phil Kean and Robert (Diane) Kean; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years Alan, and her sister Mary (Paul) Frith.

Paul graduated from Loras Academy on June 6, 1952 with distinction. He began studying at Loras College where he played football. Just one year in, Paul enlisted in the Army on January 30, 1953 and served during the Korean War. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina where he completed over 20 jumps as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged on November 4th, 1955 and earned the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.

On June 28, 1954 he married Mary Elaine Jungels. They had six children and were married for 63 years. Paul and Mary moved to Colorado in 1969 when Paul took a job with Oscar Mayer as a salesman where he worked most of his career. Mary passed away on October 19, 2017 in Golden, Colorado.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, wood working, riding motorcycles, and trips to the mountains of Colorado.

Throughout his life, Tom was possessed of a keen mind, a loving spirit, a substantial sweet tooth, and (due to his colorblindness) several pairs of bright red socks which matched little else in his wardrobe and which he wore often, to startling effect.

Tom was born in Dubuque, Iowa on July 14, 1931 to Jacob “Jake” J. Eulberg and Augusta Marie Eulberg (née Gieger), as the youngest of six children. He demonstrated an early entrepreneurial spirit, proudly working as a shop assistant in a haberdashery and as a grocer’s assistant in Pusateri’s throughout his youth before graduating from Loras Academy. He was an athlete of track and field as well as football, and went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting from Loras College in 1957. He married his favorite dance partner and beloved wife of 70 years, Anne Cheryl Eulberg (née Jungels), on January 24, 1953; his family fondly recalls that his favored method of wooing her prior to their marriage seemed to consist of scrawling his name throughout her dance cards so that no one else could claim her dances. The two embarked on married life in the midst of Tom’s service in the U.S. Army, during which Tom fought in the Korean War and proudly achieved the rank of Corporal.

Upon his discharge from the Army in 1954, Tom and Anne began growing their family, and Tom put his degree to good use. Throughout his long career, Tom was a teamster and worked for GE and 3M before eventually founding and co-owning Music Systems, a company specializing in sound equipment sales and installation. In 1967 Tom and Anne moved their family from Iowa to San Jose, California, where Tom became an avid sailor and boat enthusiast and spent many happy days sailing around San Francisco Bay with Anne serving as his First Mate and their children acting as deckhands. In 1979 the family relocated to Reno, Nevada, where Tom supplied sound equipment to various casinos throughout the state and spent down-time recreating in and around Tahoe and Truckee Meadows and welcoming his new brood of grandchildren. In 1985 Tom and Anne returned to California, ultimately settling in Lincoln, which became the home base for many visits from family and friends, flung far and wide.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and by his five siblings, James Eulberg, Kermit Eulberg, Kenneth Eulberg, Robert Eulberg, and Mary Jane Sheehy. He is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Cheryl, Sue, Paul, Nancy, Robin, and Chris; his sixteen grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; and several much-loved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Tom loved music, history, poetry, and spending time in his garden, watching local birds play in the fountain and visit the feeders he hung for them. He was fond of hiking, the beach, and the mountains, and was a skilled woodworker and handyman. He made funny faces in photos, drank day-old coffee with his dessert, was particular about how dishes were washed, and always felt that his grandchildren should feel more strongly about mathematics than any of them ever did. Tom will be especially remembered for his fondness for storytelling and ice cream sundaes, his deep and unshakeable faith, his wonderful singing voice, his profound love for his family and friends, and his unwavering devotion to “his beautiful Anne.” He is loved, and he is missed.

Tom’s life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lincoln on May 5, 2023 at 11 a.m.

T.J. graduated from Loras Academy and attended Loras College. He worked at John Deere in the Experimental Department until his retirement in 1997. He worked at Fillmore Golf Course after retiring from John Deere. He was a proud member of The Red Shirts golf group and enjoyed many outings and many Spring Flings with the group. He was also an avid Detroit Lions fan, displaying the Lion’s colors with every win.

T.J. was born on December 31, 1937, son of Ray and Marie (Fluhr) Welu. He married Carole Jungels, the love of his life, in 1961 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. September 30, 2021 will mark their 60th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife Carole; their four children: Michael Welu, Kevin (Nancy) Welu, Jay (Jeana) Welu and Gina Pechous; ten grand children and five great-grandchildren; one sister Adele (Ding) Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marym (Bill) Danzer, brothers Jack (Dottie) Brietbach Welu, Jim (Jackie) Welu, Bob Welu and Bill (June) Welu.

There will be a celebration of life gathering at a later date with details to be announced.

He was an avid bowler and a member of various bowling teams. He was a football and NASCAR fan and a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. Gary volunteered in many ways whenever help was needed. He was very generous in life and a tissue and organ donor in death. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving are his wife, Tina M. Pluemer, of Dubuque; two daughters, Jaimie L. Pluemer, of Dubuque, Chrissie M. Pluemer, of Peoria, Ill; a sister, Lynn A. Greg was a proud member of the Moose Lodge 355.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time at the cabin at Lake Joy and playing with his devoted terrier, Max. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Greg was fun-loving and was the "life of the party" on many occasions and his generosity will be remembered.

He was a loving husband and father who really adored his granddaughters and spoiled them with his love. He will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.

Surviving are his wife, Sheila; a daughter, Jennifer A. (Scott) Ostrander, of Dubuque; two granddaughters, Vanessa and Felicia Ostrander; loved like a "daughter," Melissa M. (Vince) Tarara, of Rockford, Ill; a sister, Lynn A. (Garry) Pape, of Rickardsville, Iowa; three brothers, Daniel J. (Sharon) Pluemer and Gary T. (Tina) Pluemer, all of Dubuque, and Michael J.
