She was a member of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta, the Honor Society for students in education at SIU, the state universities annuitants association and life member of the alumni association.

She loved her extended family, neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Duane, of Makanda; and her daughter, Dianna Schroeder, of Makanda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Charles.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, with Pastor Douglas Cherry of The Victory Christian Center officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles Wayne Schroeder, 20, of Route 1, Makanda, was electrocuted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 1980, while attempting to move a 30-foot television tower in his back yard. He was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Mr. Schroeder was a sophomore at John A. Logan College and floor supervisor at University 4 Theaters in Carbondale. He was a 1978 graduate of Carbondale Community High School.

He was a member of the Sierra Club.

Mr. Schroeder was born July 2, 1960, in Carbondale, the son of Duane and Anne Webster Schroeder.

Survivors include his parents, of Route 1, Makanda; grandmothers, Harriett A. Schroeder of Route 1, Makanda, and Bernice E. Webster of Centralia; and a sister, Dianna Lynne Schroeder at home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Huffman Funeral Home in Carbondale with the Rev. Richard Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.

Skip was born on April 10, 1940 in Dubuque, the son of Ray and Gertrude (Winders) Schmerbach. He married Sally Ann Miller on July 14, 1962, at Saint Joseph the Worker. He did basic training with the United States Army and then served with the Army National Guard in the 389th division from 1961 to 1967.

Skip worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co, FDL, and Farmland Foods for a total of 42 years and was a member of the U.F.C.W. Local 150A. He later worked part time at Nordstroms. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Packers, the Cubs and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Sally; his three sisters Anne McClain, of Dubuque, Rose (John) Mitchell, of Dubuque, and Mary Walter, of Edgerton, WI; two brothers Ray (Mary Jane) Schmerbach and Dave (Penny) Schmerbach both of Dubuque; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law Jim McInerney and sister-in-law Roberta Schmerbach.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Shirley Revenig, Marilyn McInerney, Kenneth Schmerbach and Bob Schmerbach.
