Koertge Balgemann, 95, a resident of Grant Park for 72 years, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hub Funeral Chapel in Grant Park, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Douglas Zimmerman will officiate.
Burial will be in Union Corners Cemetery in rural Grant Park. She died Sunday (Dec. 9, 2007) at Beecher Manor Nursing and Rehab in Beecher.
Mrs. Balgemann was born March 1, 1912, in Belvidere, the daughter of George and Mae Lewis Koertge. Her husband, Erwin A. Balgemann, whom she married Aug. 15, 1931, in Belvidere, died Nov. 23, 1993. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Grant Park. She was a poet, an activist for Pure Air in Grant Park and was for the PTA in local schools. She was a gardener, an excellent cook and a humanitarian.
Surviving are one son, Dennis Balgemann and his associate, Michael Wong of Grant Park; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Terry Langlois of rural Grant Park, Mercia and Frank Fiore of Elmwood Park; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one brother, Fred Koertge; and one sister, Violet Zeigler.
