Leona was a graduate of Reedsburg High School and the Sauk County Normal School. On September 3, 1938, she was married to Francis "Jack" Adelman. Together they operated Adelman's Towne Club in Reedsburg for many years. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leona enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. Survivors include her four children: William (Loretta) Adelman, of Reedsburg; Thomas (Judi) Adelman, of Reedsburg; Joan (Michael) Eharoshe, of Brookfield and Jeanne (Jerrell) Schuette, of Reedsburg; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a special friend: Mary C. Gavin, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on April 20, 1980; three sisters: Gladys Thomas, Grace Hoeverman and Geneva Bridgeford; and two brothers: Arthur and Charles Thomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

She was born on June 19, 1915, in Ironton Township, Sauk County, WI, the daughter of August and Ida (Krause) Schuette. On October 12, 1940, Leona was united in marriage to George E. Grunke in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1979. Leona worked for many years at the Badger Ordinance, Baraboo, during WWII; at the Weyenberg Shoe Company, Portage; and as a cook for the School District of Portage. Leona loved to travel and enjoyed needle and crochet work.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: Walter, Esther, Hilda, Herbert, Hugo, Gary, Irene, Elizabeth, and Rosella.

Leona is survived by her son, David (Danielle) Grunke of Two Rivers;

Grandson, Nicholas Worth of Manitowoc;

Great granddaughter, Kaylee Von Ryan;

Sister-in-law, Hilda Schuette of Milwaukee;

Several nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

We celebrate Leona’s life with a service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Leona’s name.
