    Delmer was born March 25, 1923 to parents Louis and Louise (Keiser) Stene on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota where he lived his entire life.
    Delmer attended Prospect Hill rural school. He married Darlene Newberg on October 5, 1943. Delmer farmed his whole life. Farming wasn’t just his occupation, it was an enjoyment and passion and in 2008 Delmer was recognized at the South Dakota State Fair for having a Century Farm. Darlene passed away in 2003 and Delmer continued to live on the farm until poor health forced him to move to the Morningside Care Center where he resided until his death.
    Delmer was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church and later became a member of Roseni Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. Among his hobbies and interests were tractor pulling, restoring tractors, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Dallas, and brother DeLewis.
    His survivors include three children, Dennis Stene and wife Glenda of Sioux Falls, DeLynn Stene and wife Colleen of Alcester and DeAnne Mulder and husband Larry of Mt. View, MO; 8 grandchildren, Amy Ireland and husband Scott, Angela Stene, Kimberly Stene, Julie Stene, Travis Stene and wife Natalie, Kyle Stene and wife Marcy, Jennifer Renegar and husband Earnie and Melanie Miller and husband Tim; 9 great grandchildren, William and Alex Ireland, Chantell Westberg, Amelia and Trevor Stene, Haleigh and Colton Stene, Jayson Petersen and Avery Miller; special friend Mildred Espeland, Sioux Falls; and many relatives and friends.
    Memorials may be directed to Morningside Care Center, American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

  • Darlene Newberg died on 15 June 2003 at South Dakota at age 76 Darlene Stene,76,of Alcester,enter imto enteral Life on Sunday June 15 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester.Services will be 10 a.m.Wenesday at Roseni Lutheran Church in rural Beresford.Burial in church cemetery.Darlene was born Dec. 22,1926 in Alcester,S.D.the daaughter of Charles & Marie(Albers)Newberg.She grew up near Alcester and went to Alcester High School.She married Delmer Stene on Oct.5,1943 in Alcester.The couple made Alcester their home and she was employed with Morningside Manor.She was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church were she served as church secretary on the church council.She also was part of WELCA,quilting workshop and Extension Club.Survivors include her beloved husband Delmer;two sons,Dennis & Glenda of Sioux Falls,S.D.,and Delynn and Colleen of Alcester;daughter DeAnne and husband Larry Mulder of Mount View,MO;former daughter-in-law Doreen Stene of Aurora,Colo;eight grandchildren,Amy Ireland and husband Scott,Angela,Kimberly and Julie Stene,Kyle and Travis and his wife Natalie Stene,Jennifer Peterson and husband Brian,Melanie Miller and husband Tim;four great-grandchildren;William & Chantell Ireland,Amelia & Trevor Stene;sister and husband Norma & Rodger Little;two brothers and their wifes,Eldon & Marilyn and Jerome and Mary Newberg;sister-in-law Bonnie Newberg.She preceded in death by her parents,two brothers Virgil and Roland Newberg;infant brother Charles.
