He was a 50-year member of the plasters and cement masons union, having held a certificate of apprenticeship since 1954. He was formerly employed by Stanley Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Floyd Behling and Wellnitz Builders. As a young adult, Roland played hockey for the Janesville Bluebirds team. He continued his passion for the sport throughout his life. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elfride Swisher; a son, John (Cheryel) Swisher of Johnson Creek, WI; 3 daughters: Lillian Rudolph (Jeff) of Beloit, WI, Rose Marie (Dennis) Gosda of New Lisbon, WI, and Jacqueline (Warren) Johnson of Janesville; 8 grandchildren: Angel, Jason, Jennifer, John, Crystal, Marie, Madalyn, and Sadie; 5 great-grandchildren: Shaylynn, Stevie, Austin, Amy, and John; a sister, Dorothy (Jim) Schoephoerster; and 2 brothers, Duane (Betty) Swisher and Don (Geraldine) Swisher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Bernita; son-in-law, Pat Rudolph; 2 grandsons, Keith and John; and a brother. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 2200 Milton Ave., Janesville, with Rev. Judi Huseth of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. A visitation will be held at the MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL from 12 noon until the time of services on Friday. Following cremation, burial will be in Milton Lawns. He liked woodworking, bowling, snowmobiling, deer hunting, getting away to the cabin in Adams Friendship, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; 2 children, Don K. Swisher on April 10, 1976. Ruth was formerly employed by JCPenney, Van Galder Bus Service, and Jacobson Bus Service. She especially enjoyed the time she spent driving bus for special education children. Ruth was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose Chapter #477, holding an Academy of Friendship Degree from them. She enjoyed doing ceramics and other crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Don K. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Women of the Moose service at 6:30 p.m., at the Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
