    She was born on Sept. 23, 1930, in Lime Ridge, the daughter of Agon and Clara (Meyer) Gudenschwager. She graduated from Lime Ridge High School and the Sauk County Normal School in 1950 and taught in one-room rural schools for three years. On March 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Dean Pfaff at St. Paul' s Lutheran Church in Hillpoint. In 1953, they moved to Sauk City where she did substitute teaching for 20 years and then worked as a library assistant for 21 years in the Sauk Prairie Schools.

    She was a faithful member of St. John' s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac, where she taught Sunday school and confirmation classes for many years. She was a member of the choir, the Messenger group, Martha Circle and the director of the church library in later years. She was active in the community in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener who loved to share her flowers and vegetables. Books and a love of reading and sewing were other interests.

    Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Dean; two daughters, Deanna (Tom) Fischer of Oregon, and Rita (Kris) Sperstad of Eau Claire; two sons, Robert (Debbie) of Baraboo, and John (Sharol) of Prairie du Sac; nine grandchildren, Claire, Doug and his fiancee Chrissy Williams, and David Fischer, Andy and Daniel Pfaff, Dean and Julie Sperstad, and T.J. and Brady Pfaff; a great-grandson, Braydon Fischer; two sisters, Caroline (Milford) McCauley of Hillpoint, and Lucille Gher of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Larry Gher.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at ST. JOHN' S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Prairie du Sac with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Interment will be in the Sauk City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010, at ST. JOHN' S LUTHERAN CHURCH and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to St. John' s Lutheran Church or to the church library. The Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg is serving the family.

    He was born on July 14, 1931 in the Town of Ithaca, Richland County, the son of Elgie and Ruby (Kintz) McCauley. He was married to Caroline Gudenschwager on December 15, 1950.

    He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.

    Milford served on the Weston School Board for many years and also served on the church council at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillpoint.

    He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Washington Township, Sauk County, receiving many dairy awards for quality and production during his farming career. He retired from farming in 2005. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Survivors include his wife, Caroline; six children: Donald (Deanna) McCauley, of Reedsburg; Judy (Gerald) Powell, of Wales; Karen (Rick) Fairbrother, of Richland Center; Dennis (Cindy) McCauley, of Hillpoint; Diane (Greg) Goetsch, of Wausau and Dan (Natalie) McCauley, of Hillpoint; eight grandchildren: Amy, Melissa, Bonnie, Rachel, Lauren, Marcus, Mason and Carson; two great-grandchildren: Justin and Morgan; two brothers: Wilford (Ella) McCauley, of Ripon and Vaughn (Betty) McCauley, of Reedsburg; five sisters: Genevieve Hilleshiem, of Sparta; Dorothy Foley, of Richland Center; Lucille Froehlich, of Reedsburg; Norma (Conrad) Markley, of Prairie du Sac and Janice (Ike) Keil, of Bellevue, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a brother: Gordon and a grandson: Gerald Powell Jr.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Kurt Klingbeil officiating.

    Interment with military rites will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hillpoint.

    The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Sauk City, today, June 18 (not June 25, as appeared in yesterday's paper) at 10:30 a.m., with Father Kevin Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Friends may call at the church today, June 18, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Survivors include a brother, Patrick (Helen) Leary of Madison; two sisters, Elaine Campbell of Henderson, Nev., and Marilyn (John) Dahlby of Cross Plains; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and special friend, Robert Frint. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and stepfather, Leo Leary of Ridgeway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Roger Nilles officiating. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
