She graduated from Versailles High School in 1930 and she taught two years at Lindloff School, south of Stover, Mo. She was a homemaker and was a member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Independence, Mo.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Ann Durbin and her husband, Charles of Independence, Mo., and Sherry Lynn Cox and her husband, Paul of Clarksburg, Mo; two brothers, Claude Sumner of Riverview, Fla., and Elmer Sumner of Centralia, IL; two sisters, Mary Turpin of Boonville, Mo., and Neva Baker of Spring Valley, Calif; 6 grandchildren, Michael Durbin and his wife, Shari, Michelle Arnold and her husband, Randy, Monica Cross and her husband, Kevin, Julie Fisher and her husband, James, Joey Cox and his wife, Johanna, and Jeremy Cox; 10 great grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Stacey, Jonathan, Silas, Magen, Spenser, Tabatha, James Edward, and James Allen; two step great-granddaughters, Amanda and Casey, and one step great-great grandson, Cainan James. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles H. Sumner Jr. and an infant brother; three sisters, Hester Sumner, Ethel Silvey Wingate and Lena Waisner, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Cox.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo., at 3:30 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. David Griffith, assisted by the Rev. Leroy Gingerich and the Rev. Walter Wood. Burial will be in Green Grove Cemetery near Latham, Mo. Visitation will be on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo., from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Green Grove Cemetery, c/o Anita McDonald, 68004 Moser Road, Latham, MO 65050. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.
