He was a charter member of the VFW Post #9867.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry of Champlin, MN and Dave of Shell Lake; two step sons, Chuck Harrell and Jim Harrell, both of Spooner; 34 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a brother, Allan Hooser, and a sister, Ina Hooser, both of Ortonville, MN.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, one step daughter, three step sons, and his friend, Josephine LaRue, of 27 years.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Pockat Funeral Home, Shell Lake, with Rev. Greg Harrell officiating. Burial was in the Shell Lake Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Shell Lake Honor Guard.
