Thomas Hennen of Davenport; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothea Moga of Robinsdale, MN.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica; 3 brothers, Edward Dean Hagle, James Hagle and Charles McGuire; 2 sons-in-law, Dan Denefe and Barry Holifield.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Thom Hennen and Father James Betzen C.PP.S. concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 1, 1931 at Long Beach, Calif., the second of five children to Elza D. Hagle and Dorthea Louise Kaercher Hagle.
Following the death of his mother at age 35, he went to live with his mother’s twin sister, Cornelia Kaercher, first in Minneapolis, Minn. and then in Milbank, S.D.
He grew up in Milbank, and after high school attended summer school in Aberdeen, S.D., where he earned a teaching certificate. He taught all eight grades at a country school in Grand County, S.D. He upgraded his certificate with a summer of study at South Dakota State Teachers’ College, and was enrolled at the University of Minnesota when he was drafted during the Korean War. He served two years stateside, and following honorable discharge attended Fordham University in New York.
During summers while at Fordham, he came to Oregon, where he worked at his father’s orchard near Hood River. After graduation from Fordham in 1958,he returned to Oregon where his father then operated the Siuslaw Marina.
After further studies at the University of Oregon, he began teaching at Florence schools. There he met Margaret Preston, also a teacher. They were married in 1961 in The Dalles.
He taught in the Florence school system until 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters Cecelia Hagle, Hillsboro and Corie Eaves, El Dorado Hills, Calif; sons Ned Hagle, Junction City, Hans Hagle, Florence and Tom Hagle, Florence; sisters Joan Hennen, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Dorthea Hagle McGuire Moga, Minneapolis; brothers James A. Hagle, Nashville, Tenn. and Charles Hagle McGuire of Minneapolis, and numerous cousins.
Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Florence on Thursday, Feb. 1 at noon.
A scholarship fund has been set up in his memory. Memorial contributions may be sent to Siuslaw Valley Bank, P.O. Box 280, Florence, 97439.
Burns’ Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jim served in the Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota under the GI Bill. Jim worked as a journalist and spent most of his career in the public relations field. He lived with his family and worked in Duluth, MN; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Denver, CO; Naperville, IL and Nashville, TN. He also had a summer home in Bemidji, MN. Jim retired as Public Relations Director for the Burlington Northern railroad in 1984. During his career, Jim also worked for College of St. Scholastica, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Northern Pacific, Holder Kennedy, Bill Hudson and Associates and Yellow Pages of Tennessee. He belonged to the Public Relations Society of America. Jim was a member of St. Edward Church. He enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, fishing and camping. He loved cooking, photography and travel and was devoted to and generous with friends and family. In recent years he joined Gilda's Club. He ran the Music City half marathon in 2010 and 2011 to raise money for the cancer support group. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Suek Hagle; brothers, Charles McGuire and Edward Dean Hagle; parents, Dorothea Kaercher Hagle and Elza Dean Hagle. He is survived by his fiancée, Nancy Ottmann of St. Paul, MN; daughters, Julia Hagle of Bar Harbor, ME, Karen DeFore and Gretchen Hagle of Franklin, TN and their spouses; grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenzie, Jackson and Eliza DeFore, Benjamin Hagle and Nicholas Kadin; sisters, Joan Hennen of Ottumwa, IA and Dorothea Moga of Robbinsdale, MN. Reverend Joseph Patrick Breen will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Church. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. A June service is also being planned in St. Paul, MN with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

John Thomas Bernard was born on March 11, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN, to Thomas Vincent and Alice (Kaercher) Bernard. He grew up in Woodbury, MN. He graduated high school in 1971 and attended the University of Minnesota. John was a loving care-taker for his family and friends. For a number of years, John enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Emanuel Lutheran Church. He will be remembered for saying, “Uncle John doesn’t think that is a good idea!” John enjoyed spending time at Mill Theater and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, and deer camp. John was a very inclusive person. If someone in a group was uncomfortable, he would get up, introduce himself, and help make them feel included. He made many friends by including new people in his activities or conversations.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters: Dorothea Moga of Minneapolis, MN; and Alice “Toni” Bernard of Milbank, SD; one brother, Michael (Barbara) McGuire of Woodbury, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Alice; and siblings: Charles McGuire and Mary Edwards.

John graduated from the University of Minnesota and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A resident of Ottumwa since 1953, he worked for 39 years at John Deere Ottumwa works as a design engineer, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation where he had served on Parish Council and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #888. He had been a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, served on the Ottumwa Transit Authority Board, was a member of Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties Auxiliary and was a Hospice volunteer.

He is survived by 11 children, Mary Jo (John) Knight of Ottumwa, John “Jack” (Kathy) Hennen of St. Paul, MN, Michael (Aimee) Hennen of Novinger, MO, Anne (Randy) Clabaugh of Independence, MN, Theresa Holifield of Winnebago, IL, Barbara Bray of West Des Moines, Kathryn Denefe of Austin, TX, Susan (Carlos) Ruiz of St. Paul, MN, Nancy Hennen of Evry, France, David (Erin) Hennen of Lebanon, KY and Fr. The 5 who survived her in this country are Otto of Forth Atkinson, Max of Beloit, Mrs. Fred Dreifke, Mrs. Fleming and Paul all of Ableman. Funeral services will be held at the Fleming home, south of the village, at 1:30 Sunday afternoon and at 2 pm at the Ableman Lutheran Church. The Reverend P. Lehman will officiate and burial will be the Ableman Cemetery.
