The former Helen Catherine Eufers was born Nov. 24, 1916, on the family farm north of Oyens, the daughter of Nicholas and Mathilda (Henrich) Eufers. She grew up in the Oyens area and graduated from St. Catherine's Parochial School. In 1936, she married Matt Paskert. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for many years, south of Remsen and then moved to Le Mars in the early 1950's. Her husband Matt died in 1966.

For many years Helen was a caregiver and housekeeper for several elderly people in Le Mars. She loved to cook and had helped Cora Crowley with the noon meals for various service clubs in Le Mars for many years. She had also worked as the housekeeper for several priests at St. Joseph's Church Rectory for many years.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and The Christian Mother's Society.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, LaVonne and Tom Gaul, and Connie and Rod Eisma, all of Le Mars; four grandchildren, LeAnn Vitito and her husband Don of Omaha, Neb., JoLynn Curbeam and her husband James of Omaha, Neb., and Gretchen and Brandy Eisma, both of Sioux Falls, S.D; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Sara Vitito and Alex and Olivia Curbeam; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Matt in 1966; a son, Don Paskert in 1987; a grandson, Nick Eisma in 1997; three sisters, Josephine Eufers, Anna Ballman, and Geraldine Schiltz; and two brothers, Charles Eufers and Leo Eufers.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Christian Mother's rosary at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to the Mass at the Church.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Eufers, Bedford Robinson, Danny McCarthy, Larry Dreckman, Keith Schiltz, and Marvin Kunkel.

Thomas Frank Gaul was born May 29, 1937, at Granville, the son of Fred and Josephine (Kolbeck) Gaul. He moved with his family as a young boy to a farm near Ashton. He grew up in the Ashton area and graduated from St. Joseph's Parochial School in 1955. Tom entered into the service with the U.S. Navy on Jan. 4, 1956. He served as an Aviation Electronics Technician (Navigation) and was stationed on Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean. He was honorably discharged and transferred to reserves on Nov. 24, 1959.

Thomas Gaul married LaVonne Paskert on Sept. 21, 1963, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Le Mars, where Tom was employed with NIPCO for 25 years. For the last 10 years of his career, he was employed with MidAmerican Energy in Sioux City, retiring at the age of 62.

Tom was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.

He was a certified Master Gardener and Conservationist. In his younger years, he had his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying single engine aircraft. Tom also enjoyed bicycling and had participated in RAGBRAI for six years.

Survivors include his wife LaVonne of Le Mars; two daughters and their husbands: LeAnne and Don Vitito and JoLynn and James Curbeam, both of Omaha, Neb; four grandchildren: Michael and Sara Vitito and Alex and Olivia Curbeam, all of Omaha; five brothers: Merlin "Mick" Gaul and his wife Pat of San Ramon, Calif., Paul Gaul and his wife Pat of Corvallis, Mont., Bob Gaul and his wife Shirley of Sioux City, Richard "Dick" Gaul and his wife Janice of Le Mars and Bill Gaul of Winters, Calif; three sisters: Ardene Hindt and her husband Marion of Prior Lake, Minn., Betty Larson and her husband Ralph of Arnold, Neb., and Patsy Ruppert and her husband Bernard of Madison, Neb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Josephine Gaul.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Rolfes died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Lake Park Care Center. He was 78 years of age.

Virgil was very active in community service. He served as President of Lake Park Lions for three terms and was an honorary member of the 4th degree Knights. He was a member of the Horseshoe Pitching Association of America and played in National Horseshoe Tournament. He enjoyed playing pool and cards. Virgil also served on the Park Board.

He is survived by his wife Elvera Rolfes of Lake Park, IA, four sons Jeffrey Rolfes and his special friend Patricia of Lake Park, Doug & Terri Rolfes of Spencer, IA, Joel & Melissa Rolfes of Milford, and Marty & Paula Rolfes of Redfield, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
