Death17 April 1937Fred Ernest Dreifke died on 17 April 1937 at age 70 Fred Ernest Dreifke was born on December 23, 1866 in Johannes-hoff, Pommerania, Germany. Here he was baptized and confirmed in the true Christian faith. At the age of 20 years he came alone to America in the year 1886, and travelled directly to Ableman, Wis. During the first few years he worked at odd jobs and thereafter he located on a farm in the town of Freedom. On Dec. 8, 1893 he entered the holy state of matrimony with Minna Bittrich. After toiling on the farm for nearly forty years he retired, and moved to the village of Ableman in 1932, together with his wife. During all these years he was a faithful member of St. John's Congregation until his blessed end. Shortly after New Year, three and a half months ago his health failed him and he was bedridden most of the time, suffering from a weakened heart and other complications, until his strength completely left him, so that he slowly and calmly went to sleep on Saturday morning, April 17, 1937 at 8 o'clock. He was 70 years, 4 months and 14 days old. His survivors are his bereaved wife Minna, one daughter, Ella, now Mrs. Edward Hinz, of Ableman; three sons Louis Dreifke, of Chicago, who was unable to be at his father's funeral service because his physical condition after suffering for eight years from a nervous breakdown, did not allow him to leave the Veteran's hospital at Chicago; Arthur Dreifke of Janesville; and Vern Dreifke, of Ableman; one son-in-law, Edward Hinz; two daugters-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Dreifke, and Mrs. Verne Dreifke; three grandchildren, Adeline, Pearl and Edward Hinz; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Engel, of Elroy, Wis; and four brothers, William, of Reedsburg; August, of Ellendale, N. D; Gustav, of Reedsburg; and Frank of Elroy. One sister, Mrs. Alvina Voelzke and two brothers, Herman and Charles, preceded him in death. Taken from the Reedsburg Paper.
