Gerald was born on April 28, 1930, in Grant County, the son of Charles and Rose (Vondra) Alt. He was united in marriage to Joyce Reed on Aug. 26, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Gerald was a police officer for Belmont and also a deputy for Lafayette County. Gerald was a mechanic for many years for Belmont Equipment, until his retirement. After his retirement he was a currier for Clare Bank. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making things for his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Belmont. Gerald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce of Platteville; four children, Terry Anne (Brian) Stannard of Madison, Pam (Doug A.) Nodolf of Belmont, Allen (Sonja) Alt of Monroe, and Susan (Doug O.) Nodolf of Platteville; 10 grandchildren, Nicole and Allison Stannard, Christa (Pete) Weghorn, Jaime (Tim Carey) Nodolf, JD (Niki) Nodolf, Danielle (Rusty) Lynch, Elise Alt, Jenny, Michael and Lisa Marie Nodolf; five great-grandchildren, Jade and Madison Nodolf, Makayla McVay, Brendan and Brock Lynch; three sisters, Rosella Farrey, Margaret (Frank) Tuetschman and Melita Oats; and three brothers, Merlin (Louise) Alt, Edwin (Anne) Alt and LeRoy (Modesta) Alt. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the cemetery, where social distancing will be respected. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.

Doug was born August 10, 1951 in Platteville, WI to Robert H. and Patricia (McDermott) Nodolf. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1969. On July 17, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Pamela (Alt) Nodolf at St. Philomena’s Catholic Church in Belmont, WI.

At the age of 16, he started driving milk truck for his father. He continued his trucking career with Wm. Eustice & Sons, McMorhan Trucking, and then purchased his own milk truck where he hauled for Swiss Valley for 16 years. Doug later went on to work for Nelson Division, Schumacher Trucking, and in recent years for QLF Dodgeville until he became ill.

Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time spent at the Belmont Sportsmen’s Club where he was a member. He looked forward to family vacations to Chetek and trips to Nashville with friends. He was a fan of the Badgers, Packers, and NASCAR. Doug’s most favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to watch them play sports.

Doug is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pam; children, Christa (Peter) Weghorn, Jaime (Tim Carey) Nodolf, James “JD” (Niki) Nodolf, and Danielle (Rusty) Lynch; grandchildren, Jackson Nodolf-Carey, Makayla (Grant) Garvey, Jade and Madison Nodolf, and Brendan and Brock Lynch; great grandchildren, Brier and Boyer Garvey; sisters, Cheree (Guy) Schurz and Jane Ware; mother-in-law, Joyce Alt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry (Brian) Stannard, Allen (Sonja) Alt, and Susan (Doug O.) Nodolf; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia Nodolf; grandchildren, Faith Lynch and Samantha Nodolf-Carey; grandparents, Alphonse “Dick” and Florence Nodolf and Joseph and Mary Gladys McDermott; and father-in-law, Gerald Alt.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose Mary (Richard) Burkholder, of Platteville, and Luanne (Kenneth) Stodden, of Neillsville; two sons, Thomas R. "Butch" Farrey, of Madison, and Dennis G. Farrey, of Leadmine; two sisters, Melita Oates, of Belvidere, Illinois, and Margaret (Frank) Teuschmann, of Shullsburg; three brothers, Merlin (Louise) Alt, of Benton, Edwin (Anne) Alt and LeRoy (Modesta) Alt, both of Caladonia, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Joyce Alt, of Platteville; fifteen grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Bette Jo Farrey; a brother, Gerald; and three sisters, Arlene, Marion and Hildegarde.

Merlin farmed for 17 years near Hazel Green and trucked for 31 years, hauling out of the mines in his early years and for Mowry Brothers for the last 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; two sons, Glen (Joyce) of Barre, Massachusetts, and Francis (Donna), of Monroe, Wisconsin; a daughter-in-law, Pam Alt, of Benton; two sisters, Melita Oates, of Belvidere, Illinois, and Margaret (Frank) Teuschmann, of Shullsburg; two brothers, Edwin (Anne) Alt and LeRoy (Modesta) Alt, both of Caladonia, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren and two on the way.
