She was united in marriage to Aheard List on November 22, 1937 where they farmed the family farm. There was always a place at her table for a cup of coffee, fried egg and toast. Often someone would come just at dinnertime and they were always warmly welcomed to sit up to the table too. After marriage, Shirley became a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton, and served on Dorcas circle and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also sang on the International Lutheran Hour Choir. Her devotion was to her husband, family, church, and friends. You never wanted to argue over St. John’s Church or about Martin Luther either. Her simple enjoyment was to sit down after dinner and have a simple game of solitaire. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Lynn David List, Cheryl (Daniel) Bair, and Dennis List. Five married grandchildren: Robin (Erica) List, Erika (David) Billion, Heidi (Dana) Gaukel, Dusty (Jennifer) List, Courtney (Joseph) Forbes and 12 great grandchildren.
