Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler. The Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Cuba City, is in charge of arrangements. She was born on May 24, 1929, in Beetown, daughter of Theodore and Flora (Fullman) Seippel. She moved to Dubuque as a young woman, where she worked, living at Our Lady of the Lourdes until meeting her husband-to-be, Merlin Bertjens. Merlin and Lillian were married on Aug. 25, 1951, in Dubuque. Since then, Lillian and Merlin resided on the Bertjens farm near Kieler, where they raised six children. He preceded her in death. While she worked at home and on the farm, Lillian also worked at the Village Bar for many years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish and served on many committees and work groups. More than anything in the world, Lillian enjoyed and loved her family. Raising her children, caring for her 16 grandchildren, and delighting in her 14 great-grandchildren were her passions. She cared for and loved them all unconditionally. She also enjoyed gardening and supplying her family and friends with much produce. She gladly shared cuttings from her flower beds and freely offered her advice on all things gardening.Surviving are four daughters, Deborah (Daniel) Hoey, of Cuba City, Diane (Nick) Loeffelholz, of East Dubuque, Ill., Cindy (Ken) Aird, of Cuba City, and Lisa (Brian) Wedig, of Belmont; a son, Steven (Laura) Bertjens, of Louisburg; a brother, John (Irene) Seippel, of Lancaster; a sister, Fannie (Francis) Simon, of Bloomington; sisters-in-law, Vernetta Seippel, of Lancaster, and Elda Uthe, of Dubuque; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Michelle Kaiser; a brother, Henry Seippel; and sisters, Viola (Les) Groom and Melinda Atkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his sister, Irene Thunstrom; sons, Rick and Jerry and daughter-in-law Annette; grandchildren Kristin and her husband Tim, Laura and her husband Corbin, and Joshua; and his great-grandson, Finn. He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Margaret and siblings, Roy, Doris, Ruth and Betty. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bob was one of six kids and grew up on a farm in Milaca, Minn. during The Great Depression. At the age of 20, Bob married Lorraine Mecklenburg and a year later had their first son, Jerry. Soon after, Bob went on to serve in WWII as a member of Patton's 11th Armored Division from 1944-1946. Bob was a self-made engineer and despite never having graduated from high school went on to invent milling processes, write several patents and own his own company, Champion Products, Inc. Bob was on the board of Third Northwestern National Bank and after retirement he also served on the board of his church for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, golfing and traveling. He loved his family well and lived a life of faith in God. On July 20, 2010, Bob and Lorraine celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Psalm 84.
