Death8 March 2015Catherine Elizabeth Helbing died on 8 March 2015 at age 84 Catherine (Katie) Elizabeth Tigges, 84, of East Dubuque, Illinois, formerly of Peosta, Iowa, passed away at the Bell Tower Retirement facility on March 8, 2015.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Katie’s life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 am at the church on Saturday morning.

Katie is survived by her children, Randa (Jim) Derby and Perry (Kathy) Tigges, both of Dubuque; grandchildren, Leslie (Jeff May) Sanford, Tara (Todd) Preston, Heath (Melissa) Derby, Marcus (Carrie) Tigges, and Ashley Tigges; great grandchildren, Noah, Paige and Mia Preston, Gillian Sanford, and Mila Derby; sisters, Hazel (Buzz Risley) Knaeble, and Lorraine Leute; sister-in-law, Lucille Helbing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna (Roth) Helbing, mother and father-in-law, Mary and George Tigges, brothers Adam, Howard, Walter, Harold and Wilbert Helbing, and sisters, Bernice Pitzen, Mildred Pitzen, Marie Klaas, and Malinda Helbing.

Catherine was born May 27, 1930 to Elmer and Anna Helbing at Dickeyville, WI. She worked for Dubuque Packing Co. for 27 years before retiring. Katie loved spending time with her husband of 62 years. She also especially enjoyed family time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of her hobbies included canning, gambling, dancing, and gardening. Katie was also known for her hospitality and entertaining.

Dick attended St. Mary grade school in Dubuque and graduated from Loras Academy in 1941 where he was active in their ROTC program. Dick was extremely patriotic and proud to have served his country in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II as part of the Army's 240th Engineering Company Battalion. He received the South Pacific Operations Medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. In later years Dick and Lorraine attended many Army reunions. He worked for over 50 years at the Dubuque Packing Company. In his younger years he enjoyed, tennis, swimming, fishing and hunting. But most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine and 6 children: Rick (Jean) Leute of East Dubuque, IL, Vickie (Lee) Donar of Hazel Green, WI, Kevin (Sue) Leute of East Dubuque, IL, Duane (Miriam) Leute of Weston, WI, Mark Leute of East Dubuque, IL and Aimee Leute (friend Tony Bussey) of Elgin, IL; 10grandchildren: Julie (Jeff) Shade, Trisha (Jwan) Brookins, Joshua Leute, Kathryn (Josh) Yaddof, Kimberly Leute, Amanda Leute, Ashley Leute, Claire Leute, Erik (Ashley) Leute, Jack Leute; 6 great grandchildren: Jayden and Josiah Brookins, Brody Rosemeyer, Alaina Sutter, Dawson Yaddof, and Soren Leute; 2 sister-in-laws: Katie (Doc) Tigges, Hazel (Buzz Risley) Knaeble; and a brother-in-law: Bert (Lucille) Helbing. Eugene ‘Doc’ Cyril Tigges was born December 30, 1931 to George and Mary (Stecklein) Tigges in Dubuque, Iowa. He served with the Navy Reserve for 10 years, and worked for John Deere for over 30 years before retiring. Doc loved spending time with his wife of 62 years. He also especially enjoyed family time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, and gardening. Doc was also known for his homemade wine.
