He was born the son of Mark & Helen (Olson) Crook. Jerry grew up in rural Iowa County where he attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse and in good weather, he walked the two miles to and from each day. He attended high school in Spring Green and graduated in 1959. After high school, Jerry farmed his parents farm for several years, worked at Kast Rite silos and then drove a gravel truck for Watson. In 1969 he started working at Wick Homes as a carpenter until his retirement in 2003. Throughout the years he also had many side jobs. One of his favorites was roofing and siding garages in the Dodgeville and Richland Center areas with his friend Lenny Hooks. On Feb. 21, 1970, Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Weitzel in Richland Center. After their marriage they moved to Black Earth. In 1972 they moved to rural Spring Green to make their home. Jerry enjoyed watching NASCAR, rooting for the Packers and Badgers, and watching his favorite cooking show, Rachel Ray. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and, in his early years, fox trapping. He loved pulling a good joke and making people laugh. Despite his diagnosis, Jerry continued to enjoy his life to the fullest and was not afraid to face death. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Hegeman, Karen Huseby-Moore, NP and the staff at the Carbone Cancer Center, the Meriter Hospital 8th Floor General Medicine staff, Home Health United and HospiceCare for their compassionate care of Jerry during his final months of life. A celebration of his life was held at Wyoming Valley United Methodist Church. Pastor Harriet Rowland officiated.

At age 42, she left Louis Shell Station and pursued a B.S. Degree in education and later a reading specialist degree. Catherine taught second grade at St. Luke’s Catholic School in Plain and Chapter I in the River Valley School District where she touched many lives.
Catherine filled her days with many hobbies including quilting, aerobic swimming, and playing the organ. She was very social and enjoyed a diverse group of friends especially at Culvers. An adventurer at heart, she enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States. The many national parks were a favorite place to tent camp and cook over an open fire. Her most precious time was spending and planning holidays with her family. Always an inspiration, her strong will, determination, and never-give-up attitude brought comfort and strength to others. She was a member of St. John’s Women’s Organization, NEA, WEA, and RVEA.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Jane Hess (Ramona Villarreal); a son, Joseph (Arline) Hess; granddaughter, Jolene (Steve) Hess-Engel; grandsons, Lee (Lynette) Hess, William Hess, and was anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild in April. She is further survived by sisters, Charlotte Ferguson, Polly (Louie) Tichenor, Lauretta Smith, Grace Blevins, and a brother Leo (Carol) Duren.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Shirley Ann, brothers Hubert (Sandy) and Kenneth Duren, numerous brothers and sisters in-law, and unborn great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all, but her strength and courage will always be in our hearts.
